yet another quot about linksys routers and gaming

Quote:

DON'T Buy it if: You really care about running game servers. There is very little information on this at the current time, and many people are having problems. Also, if you have a dynamic IP (like me: Vorpal :), you will have NO CONTROL over your DHCP IP. There is no option on the Router's interface for either renewing or releasing your dynamic IP. You can't even see when your lease expires! You will be at risk of loosing your IP's frequently. Just wait awhile and see what kind of future support comes down the pipe. LINKSYS: We really need to be able to refresh our dynamic IP's and see the status of our current lease!

Well i tried it without the router again, using a test version of eqemu and had similar problems. But not nearly as bad, this time people could actualy log in and they wouldn't immediatly bump each other entering the worlds. But there was still a lot of link deaths, and bumping.

I am thinking maybe and upload speed of 103kb is not so good for eqemu. and the the router makes the bandwitdth problem even worse. gonna now wait for a cable modem to be installed but even that one is only 160kb upload so. shrug

DHCP Enabled.......: No ????????

Still getting people booted when someone else even attempts to log in. and have set the server only to two players, 103kb upload atm.

I am upgrading to cable, and putting 512more ram over the 512 i have.

router/win2k/eqemu question:??

win2k in properties for network card under advanced settings there is three options

enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP - checked
disable
Use NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server

I ask this because wondering if it helps with router? Also I noticed when running ipconfig/all the following

Quote:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
