Hey, you never know. Maybe this Legends server will be a model for all servers.
If they find that it is so much better and so much more fun etc etc etc they might just expand the program to include all servers. When you think about it, it could be what they have in mind. Okay so there's going to be about 2000 people selected by legends. That's $80,000 a month. You might think that's a lot, but it's SMALL BEANS compared to the $4,000,000 a month being brought in by the rest of the 'normal' subscribers. So, that makes me think that this may be a 'Test' or 'Pilot' type thing. It can't be about the money, so the $40 may have been set to help reduce the amount of people applying to play. Maybe it will simply lead to more Legends servers, or maybe it will lead to more dynamic content on all servers. -CB ps. Verrant is not a non-profit organization. They have and will continue to make money. Anyone who thinks that EQ is 'by the people for the people' needs a head check. This does however NOT excuse them from shoddy customer support (Not guides, they are pretty good, the GM's suck ass) and overall unatisfactory customer relations. |
I think they are letting 8000 people subscribe to it, they're estimating a day to day server population (on at one time) around 2000 though. Its basiclly got the revenue equivalent of 4 other servers.
|
Be that as it may, it's still not all that much revenue, considering that there's something like 35 or 40 servers online at the moment..

Perhaps you all need to consider the following:
'No life losers' couldn't afford Everquest Legends. They can only afford the $9.95 a month out of the welfare checks. "Wasting money" isn't what's going on here. It is a medium for entertainment, much like cable or satellite TV. Those of you who don't pay for your own cable, look at the bill sometime. Those of you who go to the movies often, add up all of those snacks and tickets. Those of you who go to arcades, keep record of how much you spend there. Just keep a record on how much you spend on entertainment a month, be it video games, internet connection, or condoms. People who truly 'enjoy' EQ and want whatever the Legend server offers can have it. They have to spend a long time online in order to enjoy it, so they are still saving more money than people who seek entertainment from another source. To each his own. |
I dont like the idea at all. I think thay should give this to the people paying 9.95..
oh well u can join EQEmu Legonds for 0.00$/mo |
I think Verant and Sony are a bunch of money sucking scum. They built the game knowing that they would control the amount of money you have to pay them. Its multiplayer only so its sorta a monopoly you have to pay to play or else you bought a game and its useless.

Well, for one, you BOUGHT the game KNOWING that it was mutliplayer, and that there was a monthly fee, so who's fault is it that you are trapped in the web of paying a monthly fee?
I dont understand how people can think that a company can survive on good intentions. Companies require $ to stay in business. If they didnt charge $, there would be no servers, there would be no internet connection, there would be no developers, and there would be no EVERQUEST. If you dont like paying money to EQ, then you shouldnt have bought it in the first place, its a friggin subscription service!!!! Running companies is a VERY expensive process.. Just the office supplies in a year for most decent size companies is higher than most entry level developer positions pay. Thats like buying a car, then getting pissed off cause you have to pay to put gas in the thing afterwards.. I mean, why isnt gas included in cars?? Reminds me of an old joke about tech support for car companies. I cant see how they are 'money grubbing', in the 3 or 4 years of operation, too my knowldge, they have not raised the subsciption price a single time. |
My point was the fact that they want to charge $40 for the legends server.
|
Well, you dont have to pay 40 bucks a month unless you really, really want too..
Now if they start charging 40bucks a month for standard EQ access, then Ill agree that they are money grubbing scumbags.. |
Ok, no big deal. I would never sign up for the legends server anyways. And yes I do make more then enough money..... I'm not on welfare :P I make way more then the average guy my age. I'm just posting how I feel and trying to help EQEMu and the people behind it as much as I can. Just part of a team.
|
Hey, everyone's opinion is respected here! This has been a hot topic of discussion for the past few weeks, no big deal. You are always welcome to post your views.

Well, from reading the posts in this topic, it has come to my attention that most of you are just little 12 year olds looking to get a point accross because they can't spend the extra $30 to play a game because there parents won't pay it. Now, lets see here. Just because someone wants to pay extra to play on a server, why would that make them a no life loser? did you ever think that maybe, just maybe they might want to get away from people like you that make the game more of a pain then fun? Think about that, you'll find my logic. The extra money isn't a big deal if you like the game, but like most of the people posting here they have nothing better to do then bitch about something that they can't have, so. All of you bitching about the $40 server, really, in all actuality are just jealous because you won't be able to get on it, at least for the most part. I on the otherhand would not pay the extra money to play on the new server, why? because its not worth it to me, I like the people I play with now, if I get bored, I stop playing and come back, I don't need a special server to play on and start over on. So, to all his own, why say people are stupid for wanting to go to that server? Its what they want to do. They might call you stupid because you want to stay on the normal server, it goes both ways. Really whats the point. To me it looks like the majority of people waiting for the emulator have major issues and should seriously seek help before they hurt someone else with the amount of "anger" they have developed from a game, or maybe its from lack of sex. Just my thoughts. </rant> |
Yeah they arn't interested in a fight(moderated)
|
Hmm, wow you really put me in a my place for making comments. Lets see, Do I care that you make more then me? do I care if you have a T1? I could say you waste your money, but whats the point, as I said, to all his own. As for me, thats no issue. I don't care if you make more money then me, I don't care if you have a T1, I don't care if your dick is bigger, or smaller then mine, its no concern to me. It was a comment I made and obviously you can't deal with another persons opinion. Im not trying to start a fight, im just stating the obvious everyone seems to be acting like 12 year olds about the new server. And you are proving me right in the case of people acting to quickly to "defend" themselves. You obviously concluded the wrong point from my post, and thats fine. And with your reply, it shows truley, what kind of person you really are. Sad really.

Think and say what ever you want my friend. I wont stop you at all. I just don't have to choose to listen anymore.
-Good day to ya! |
There will always be a group who dislikes it, however, if a market for the product did not exist, the product would not continue to exist.
I have a feeling more MMORPGs are going to head toward this trend. |
Hey,
Razzle obviously if there is a market for online RPG's the company's will continue to produce them but lets hope more are free like blizzard's Diablo / Diablo II then like sony / verant's Everquest. |
the only problem with blizzards game not being a pay is, well if you think about it, it dosn't require much to run a server for diablo, or starcraft. Unlike everquests, they would only need 1 or 2 servers for a connection. Everquest, has many world servers about 2-3 zones per server, if you think about it that way, an the upkeep they have to deal with, you would understand why you have to pay to play the game. Its not a hard concept to understand. How much would it cost you to make about 25-30 servers for an everquest world? and maintain them? And how much would it cost you to pay for the connection used for clients to connect? Its a buisness, they arn't there to loose money, and they would be if the servers were free. Yeah yeah, I know evil, your rich, you don't have to worry about that stick up your ass. If people thought about these things a little more, there wouldn't be as many people bitching, sure there would still be a few, but hey. thats life.

Well I say oakley. There seems to still be hope for thy way of thinking. Thou art learning by example I see.
