if its then ban me, i dont really care

Personally I'm of the opinion that it's technically legal to download it through those means.

If you don't want someone to access your publicly accessible files, password protect them.

A simple login before a full patch could prevent people w/o an eqlive account to not get eq this way.

But personally I don't think they care. If 1 out of 20 people who download it decide to get an eqlive account... they're making money.

But, the opinion of the devs is what matters here. They prefer people to obtain EQ by purchasing it. Honestly at the prices you can get EQ plus the first 5 expansions for ( about $30 ) it's easier to purchase it.

Its such a pretty box

02-04-2004 09:13 AM

Wow fully legal too huh! Dang...

I'm gonna have to share this link with all the people who dont play Everquest.

Surprising they sell this at target for $10 when you can just go to this webpage and get it for free.

Please tell me its not the real full version of Everquest original....

Now now, without noobs, there'd be no new input help etc... everyone was a noob once. Heck I'm still a noob. Don't complain about noobs, complain about people who don't take the time to check the message boards for answers to their problems.

02-05-2004 07:37 AM

Without noobs you wouldnt get money for this project. Donations come from people who were once newbies then developed into developers and program users. Then they donate to you guys and you guys are making money off of it.

So don't we all get something out of it ? :P

Somehow I doubt that anyone's making a living off of this.

Shawn319 02-05-2004 03:54 PM

I only complain about people that have never played EQ in their life. if thayre fast learners and are pretty good with computers its okay, but some people that just get a computer for the first time and want to see what computer gaming is like, and download EQ for free, shouldnt be using EQEmu =P

Not that you'd care, but I pretty much fit into that group. I have friends who have been hooked on evercrack for years, but have never played due to complete disdain for the notion of "software as a service." I came across EQEMU and saw it as an opportunity to see what all the fuss was about. As a seasoned EQ player, you'd never be able to understand how difficult it is for a person to learn about EQEMU. There was/is little documentation on the site geared for the person who has never played eq of any form. I didn't yet own a copy of EQ, so I didn't even know the relevent questions to ask. I showed up on IRC and basically asked, "What do I need to play EQEMU?" You can imagine the responses that I got. I would have to check my IRC logs to be able to correctly credit the kind soul(s) that finally gave me the information that I needed (buy the trilogy for $20, no need for a credit card to install, game is somewhat playable but not like live!). OTOH, I remember exactly which ppl were dickheads to me (this was a time when 95% of the ppl in #eqemu were devs or are now). Those same people are still dickheads, but that's no big surprise.

Just thought you might find the perspective of a person of whom you speak to be enlightening.

Monrezz 02-06-2004 04:18 AM

The reason there is little documentation for setting up EQEmu if you've never played EQ before is you get people who don't know a single thing about the game asking the same questions that have been asked and answered hundreds if not thousands of times before.

If, somehow, they managed to get a server going or connect to one, they then ask everything about the game "Where do I hunt?" "What is a spell?" "Did I just die?".

I believe EQEmu is aimed at people who have played on Live and either stopped their account, or people who play on Live but would like a chance to experience the game in a different way.

I'm almost certain this Emu wasn't designed to be played by anyone and everyone who could download EQ for free and play. It is for people who play(ed) EQ and enjoyed it, but want something different (or free).

I've seen a lot of flaming on the boards lately, mostly from the Dev's, and a lot of people are "scared" to post for fear of "flamination" occuring.

If the boards get cleaned up, and a LOT of the old, now useless, posts removed, including 15 Stickies on the top of a forum (when 4 or 5 are on the same topic). I believe we need a FAQ or Guide which answers one question, or resolves a problem, and post it. That way people can go into the forum, find their problem and resolve it. If the fix doesn't work, it's removed. Only one post per issue, and that topic is updated when needed. That way a lot of problems will be solved.

I admit, I get annoyed when I see a new post every 2 or 3 days asking the same thing, especially when people "cnt b botherd 2spel or use caps or puntation or ...". However, I don't feel the need to post a reply saying "Already answred go away n00b learn some English." I either don't reply, or if I'm in a good mood I will say this has already been answered, look here, in future search.

EQEmu has a good community, but certain individuals (including some Devs) need to mature a bit or try a little harder to helpout.

Anyway, sorry for ther long post just wanted to say my thoughts on what's been happening the last few days.
