Zone Not Available
This is SO frustrating! :!: :?:
So I got everything setup (seemingly good), my server is on the list, I can log in, and make a character.... BUT When I try to enter the game (currently FelwitheA) it says that the zone is unavailable. I've tried several things for the past three days, all to no avail. To make it easier on my computer, I'm only booting one zone. I've tried two methods of that as well: Code:
start zone . 68.104.62.54 7995 5.5.1.11 Code:
start zone felwithea 68.104.62.54 7995 5.5.1.11 (as sated before) No server available. So that's the problem (and yes I've been searching), I've found all sorts of things to try, but none work, so here I finally ask for help. Anyway, here's the important stuff: LoginServer.ini Code:
[LoginServer] Code:
[Database] Code:
@echo off Code:
@echo off Code:
[LoginServer] Zone.exe Code:
C:\Applications\EqEmu>zone . 5.5.1.11 7995 68.104.62.54 Code:
(after the normal bootup stuff, this is what it keeps saying) /cry |
are you using any download manager like emule,or something that are using port 9000?if so there would be a conflict like that one.

I think you need a URL name instead of an IP address in the "worldaddress=" field. So instead of your external IP address you need a URL that points to it. I could be wrong...but that is what worked for uss
Example: [LoginServer] loginserver=eqemulator.net loginport=5995 worldname= Gabriel's High Heaven (TESTING Extreme Non-Legit) worldaddress=gabrielshighheaven.somehost.com locked=False |

It doesn't have to be, I used an IP address but when I needed a >>NoIP Domain<< for other reasons I switched it in my loginserver as well.
I highly recommend No-IP.com >>NoIP Link<< |
okay
First off I hope your going to comment out your DB user & password and probably be smart to change it at this point.
Secondly, Your behind a Firewall or Router. Read my post here http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/vie...amp;highlight= Please verify that your router is configured with your computer on the DMZ, you open the appropriate ports (I'm not going into it when search will give a better explanation), and make sure the external IP of the DMZ is manually added to your ethernet adapter (DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR INTERNAL IP, just add External IP on the Advanced tab properties page of TCP/IP in Networking Properties). Your world.exe error is showing you cannot receive data at this point either Cofruben is correct Quote:

Thanks and hope it helps ya, Darkwaters |
I'm not using anything like emule or whatever. Not using anything at all. No reason why port 9000 should be used. Is there a way to check?
Also, I get outputs from zone.exe saying that felwithea has loaded, doors loaded, safe points, etc, etc... but I still can't log to the zone. So frustrating... |
just because I'm a pain in the arse. =)
could you post world.exe output and zone.exe output in two separate code windows for me please. It's late and its getting really hard to stay focused here. Darkwaters |
well, I'm NOT on SBC, I use Cox Communictions Cable Modem. They may use the SBC backbone, but it's not SBC, not for me anyway. And I'm not in Michigan, I'm in Las Vegas, NV.
I DO have a router (Linksys) with DMZ set to my internal server IP (5.5.1.11). It IS between my (also Linksys) cable modem and computers/server. And my IP won't change for another 2 years : ) As is the nature of Cox's so-called dynamic IP's. But that's totally fine with me. On a sidenote, I found some more info and changed my external ip's from 68.104.62.54 to ip68-104-62-54.lv.lv.cox.net (the external DNS name) in my LoginServer.ini and BootZones.bat as per this thread. |
Changed your post : )
Here are the outputs. Zone.exe Code:
C:\Applications\EqEmu>zone . ip68-104-62-54.lv.lv.cox.net 7995 5.5.1.11 World.exe (won't copy/paste from window, but after it loads, heres what it keeps cycleing through): Code:
5.5.1.11:1144: TCPConnection::RecvData(): Connection timeout |
Which of the two types of routers did you go with from Cox Communications based out of Atlanta, GA?
I notice one is wireless the other is not. The reason I'm really asking this leads up to here, are you capable of configuring your router ie. permitted or does your service provider need to do so. Cox Communications installs a cable router and if I'm not mistaken your porting issues could be arising here or try setting your local network onto a more standard local network of say 192.168.2.X just a thought. The error looks like your on a wireless network maxed at distance, but this is just an assumption on my part. Looking forward to the info and try to put brand model etc of router in post if ya don't mind. =)) Darkwaters |
I removed the last post cuz my tired butt forgot to tracert your ip after I nslookup'd and whois'd the communication carrier. =)
I went to Cox Communication website and searched their features and support columns to get as much information as I could about the network configurations and found they offered the two types of routers which is why I posted my last post. =) Been doing this IT crap way to freaking long LOL Darkwaters |

Yep all my bad way to tired thats why I removed the post hehe =) Slacker ---> Darkwaters (tonight) |
Okay I read the post I hope you didn't change your eqemulator.net port to 5997 in the login.ini file it should still be 5995 as you posted up near the top of the thread. Not really anything that might fix the current issue just a gentle reminder not to change the port number in loginserver.ini. =)

No, Cox (yes out of Atlanta) does not install or setup a router, not mine anyway. I have 2 routers, though the one (non-wireless) has routing turned off and is basically just acting as a switch.. The wireless router is actually suplying the internal IP's, which I set to 5.5.1.x myself (because it's faster and easier to type in, since I type them ALL the time) and I REALLY don't think any of my problems are arising from the fact that my IP's start with 5.5 instead of 192.168.
The models are: Cable Modem - Linksys BEFCMU10v2 Wireless Router - Linksys BEFW11S4 Wired Router - Linksys BEFSR41 All purchased and setup by me, not Cox. So yes, I am capable of configuring any aspect of any of these devices. And though the one router (the one supplying the IP's) is wireless, my servers and clients are all hardwired into the switch ports (I just have the wireless for my laptop). |
Code:
[LoginServer] |
umm ok here's a little problem then that I would like you to test. take the non-routing router configure it to route and setup your ip addresses as you would on the wireless you can plug your wireless router into the hard-wired router via uplink or X-over if you'd like for the laptop. Just a test to verify for my sanity purposes that due to it being on a "wireless" network there could be issues pushing the size of the graphics/textures etc.. as mentioned on Cox Comm. support page use the wired router for heavy usage such as gaming because of packet loss. Just an idea and I certainly wouldn't say ya gotta do this. Hope ya don't mind the suggestion.
Darkwaters |
could also be just a flukey issue between the two routers there are other options that even non-routing would disallow based on certain brands. I just wish to help. =))
Darkwaters |
Your wireless router is all this post pertains too
Here is a portion of the tech support stating some info on setting up your wireless just for confirmation that you've done something similar for your EQEmu config on the router.

Again not saying you haven't just hoping something was missed it would be nicer to find this the case then some freaky undiscoverable issue. =) Also check the router security log if its active for any additional hints. Darkwaters |
Well, I have everything going through the wired router, however, as mentioned before, it takes forever to load DB stuff, and it's late and I have work tomorrow, so I'm off to bed. If yu happen to be staying up for me, I appreciate it : ) but I'll return tomorrow.
Talk to you then. |
No problem bro, glad to be here for ya, you have a great night. And I'll look for your reply either in posts or PM

Hi again, I know Darkwaters and you have been working your butts off on this...I'm curious about this problem so went and checked our test servers "boot5zones.bat" file. (I noticed you changed your worldserver address to an DNS URL.)
Your boot5zones.bat looks like this: Quote:

So it was still bugging me, so I did some testing on our test server. I changed the boot5zones.bat file on our end to have the external ip on the left and internal ip on the right...like yours is setup. I can now login to the server and make a character, but when I try to zone in I get booted back to the login screen. Like you are.
So give that change I mentioned above a try. One other thing that I remembered when trying to play from the same LAN as the server was that the HOSTS file in windows needs to have a pointer added so that your computer doesnt try to resolve the URL using an outside DNS server. There is a thread discussing it somewhere on the forums...if you can't find the thread I can post some instructions on how to modify the hosts file. |
i know at least in my area (paradise and sunset) that cox was not setup for linksys cable modems.
also a strange thing with my setup before, (i run netgear routers) the wired one wouldnt open the ports(dmz didnt work even) but using the wireless it allowed thed the ports to be opened right. cox may have gotten smart about the port thing.. hehe was going arround their port blocks all the time.. they had telnet mail and http all blocked from inc connections. not sure if your internal ip setup might be the trouble or not, might try changeing that machine to a 192.168 just to try. |
Very Thankful for the extra great suggestions and help with this issue. =)) I've pulled out about 1/2 of my remaining hair trying to find a solution hehe. =)

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually already changed my hosts file. Let me find it...
Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. I will try altering my boot5zones to reflect both internal IP's. instead of internal and external. From what your troubleshooting desriptions imply, I think I might be ok. Let me load up my server and give it a shot. I will post with my results soon. Second question though... when I'm on a client computer and log into EQ (S2k patched) I have problems there too. Forst off, it's never a garauntee that I'll get a server list. I have to keep restarting EQ and eventually I'll get a list. Then, when I finally get a list, I select my server, click play.................. then it times out. If I keep re-logging in, maybe eventually I'll get in. THen of course after that, I find my client feezing at the character select screen. I'm sure all of this could be attributed toward my current server settings.... but I just though I'd ask about it. Thanks again for everything! : ) |
also on the 2 year ip, thats not correct unless ya paid cox for a static ip.. i see mine change about once a month(lv, nv cox anyways(hense my paradise-sunset reference earlier).. try the no-ip thing.. it's a small util that runs on your machine and updates the dns at no-ip.. it's totally free for dns forwarding.. if you start getting fancy with it(mail and such then there is a cost) something to check into.. dont have to worry about changing ips then

I don't think any of those problems have anything to do with your current server settings. Hope that boot5zones.bat change works for you. |

ok, so my zone worked (THANK GOD!! and thank you ALL)
But, I'm trying to max out my AA's... but the Gates AA's dont work, as well as the second half of the PoP Ability tab? Also, how do I make custom last names? (Like, Gabriel the Archangel). ANd how do I remove the gay Duke title for having lost of AA's? And how do I specifically handpick which #commands users can use. Like, the catagories that are defaulted by status point valeu aren't that great. I want people to do whatever they want (basically) but some things I don't want to happen. I'll think of more I'm sure : ) Oh, also.. I was playing on Saltyboogers server and he had a bunch of the newer Gates items, but my db has almost none. Is there a current update? |
The only thing I want to know right now is what was wrong LMAO =)) Great job on getting it up and putting up with our 500 posts hehe.
Darkwaters |
Only thing I changed was using internal IP for both parts of the boot5zones. That's it! :) Instead of internal and external
Yup... thanks again everyone :) |
Good to hear I wanted to keep a mental tab on this one. Grats and glad that your up and running, while sorry I made you run circles. =))
