So yea, it's that time :D. I don't have an official website up since It has been awhile since I set one up, and I just spent 23hrs finishing up my to-do list for the server to reach Alpha :(!


So bear with me while I find time to do that and setup a forum for bug reporting!

Alert: Keep in mind that the server is populating all of the buttons in character creation with all race/class/deity combo. It will take it a second after clicking "Create Character"!!!

Final list of server changes that need testing in Alpha:
-Test all custom races, make sure nothing is hinky, buggy, or out of place!
-Test "Growth" code for custom races as they level.
-Test "Bonuses" for custom races (listed below).
-Make sure that NO armor quests are in the game that shouldn't be there in a "Classic" era!
-Anything else non-classic should be reported that you think shouldn't be there? (loot tables, mobs, etc)
-Test Minotaur unique weapon system (2h -> 1h etc)
-Test all/all/all class/race/deity system with normal races (and monster races) to insure I didn't miss anything code-wise that might be an issue. (gear-wise too if you can think of an issue)

Features:
-5 Custom Races: Chetari, Kobold, Gnoll, Orc, Minotaur

Chetari: Due to their small size they have extremely small str/sta pools, but their dex/agi pools are the largest of any race (good for rogues/rangers?). To offset their horribly tiny health pool they have a +1 higher regen rate than iksars or trolls.

Kobolds: Due to running on all fours they have a 15% runspeed bonus (stacks with runspeed spells), and are generally a well balanced stat-wise race. Emphasis on wisdom based classes due to shamanistic tendencies among their race.

Gnolls: Overall similar to humans in the int and wis fields, but are slightly built more towards the melee side of the spectrum. Gnolls also get a +10% to unarmed damage (woo monks!).

Orcs: Are in-between trolls and humans in terms of stat distribution, but do not have regenerate like trolls. However, due to the Orc's rageful tendancies they're IMMUNE to Frontal-Stuns, All forms of Mez, and All forms of Charm.

Minotaur: Are huge bulkish half-bull, half-man creatures. Due to their massive size that they can grow to their strength pool is the largest of any race. This also gives them the benefit of being able to use 2handed weapons as 1handers, and even dual wield them if their class is appropriate!

Minotaurs, in addition to the above, are also immune to ALL forms of stun (melee/spell/etc).

Warning: Minotaurs are not all raging massacres with a price. The size they can grow to can be a massive detriment at later levels. You'll be investing in a favorite shaman friends, or tons of shrink potions! (Old-school trade-offs anyone?!)



-Custom stat allocation for custom races. The old-world tutorial zone facilitates a psuedo-character creation area since custom races cannot be added to normal character creation screen!


-Emphasis of server @ launch is to mimic somewhat classic progression feel (server will NEVER go past Luclin!...ever!).

-Progression rules to be ironed out, but leaning towards Timed Unlock + "Hidden" Raid mob kill count + Voting system.

The entire purpose of this server is to be classic, with a "Twist" ;)!

Can you blame them though cows are awesome and 2h weapons used as 1h weapons is just a cool and different concept.

I'd restrict that to special minotaur race only 2h item drops so you can more fine tune the control balance so you can keep it more fairly balanced it and more cosmetic for the most part than out right overpowered and imbalanced.

Anyway good luck the whole custom races thing is a nice concept. I'd like to do something around it in the future perhaps maybe via a /stance command or something that transforms you into a different race with like each base race having a alternative /morph race with it's own unique set of racial abilities.

You Made the original Races Not Worth playing, and the List of Bonuses for Minotaur greatly exceed that of any other race, why chose another sub-par race?

All Race/Deity/Class combo lets you do w/e you want with other classes.

Also, the ratio for using 2handers as onehanders is not as good as say a normal race rogue's dps, or a monk's dps, etc.

Essentially, over time i'm going to mess with the delay bonus minotaurs get so it's more in-line with normal stuff.



If you want, compare your deeps with a parser with another class your level in similar gear between minotaur and say a halfing or gnome rogue.


Also, the benefits I did was to offset the fact you can't see new armor, and some offhand weapons with monster races. So you're stuck with under 5 different looks. Their benefits is to offset that.


Also, the size minotaur get to is LARGER than ogres, and ogres have issues as is with their size getting or going into places. You should try it before bagging on the idea ;)!

I think some these initial racial ideas could be revamped and revised a bit to make each more appealing or better in general. It's a good start though regardless. It's just his alpha on the idea so give him a bit of a break and some feedback on improvements and make sure he adds Burynai race because badgers are bad as hell n tough sob's!

I may add Burynai, dunno. Wanted to give myself something to release later on for more people to try :D. Like, not burn through all my choices right off the bat for release. String out new races as teh server goes along.

I think in RL if you said to someone "I'm going to put you at a cosmetic disadvantage but to make up for it I'll make you better at your role than other people.." 9 out of 10 people would decline.

But in an online RPG I think you'll find it's the other way around :)

They're not that OP though. With equal gear Rogues, Rangers, and Monks do more dps due to dmg/delay ratios.

I could balance minotaur a tad more by reducing their delay bonus they get though. :D

Not sure If I'm missing it. But I can't find the npc to change me into a Minotaur. I see all the other npc's except that one.

It is up the ladders and standing on a box where a hole used to be.

Yea, I've yet to make an NPC in the world itself to change textures after you create for the first time. So the only other place is to do it before you leave is the same npc that changed you the first time. :D


Probably be done in the next day or so when I find time!



ps: Any races that only have one texture will most likely be twinned with another race similar to it, or will be paired with a newer version of itself for more choices. No one likes looking the same forever ;).

I wonder if that's to do with the zone pre-cache option and somehow it updates it by doing that?

Have you tried turning that option off and seeing if it made a difference with the problem?

It's just a stab in the dark, but when working with texture modding you need to delete the cache files for the zone or turn off the precache option to make zones load more quickly in EQ options first in order to see the texture update changes.

What are you talking about :I? There's no issue, I just haven't made an npc yet for the main world to facilitate texture changes for custom races.

Some changes made today:

Added:
Muu, a jelly-cube npc that facilitates the changing of textures for custom races. Please test him as much as possible :D! He can be found outside some major starting locations, but other locations near to each other don't have him!

(seriously, no point in putting him outside surefall glade if he's around qeynos, eh?)


Balanced:
-Changed Minotaur's bonus Delay for 2handers turned into 1handers from -10 to -5. So a 2h weapon with a delay of 45 will be 40 now as its onehanded version instead of 35 :). (Feedback needed)

More Changes:

Added:
-Burynai as playable race. Burynai made to mimmick Honey-Badger as requested. So Burynai is the hardest to kill with the most stamina of any race, but their other stats are average at best. Good for Monks, Warriors, Sks, Paladin. Since they do not get any special bonuses such as stun/mez/charm immunity or any other kind of special bonus they simply have a slightly higher total stat pool than any other (Ogre is Second to Burynai in total stats).

-Npc next to "The Echo" in tutorial starting area to allow you to preview your final stats after monster race point allocation + class bonus points.


Balanced:
-All custom races lowered/tweaked to reflect the bonuses given to them.
-Burynai have nothing special about them, such as immunities etc, so they have the highest overall total stat pool.

Important Notice


I need more higher-level testing of custom races, AND normal races with a class they're not used to having.

Due to this, I've adjusted XP and Skill-Up modifiers to insane amounts. WTB: Moar Higher level tests plox! :smile:

Do you really want players to level up so they can do testing for you? Maybe just put a mob in to grant levels, e.g.

Also, you can grant access to the #maxskills command to everyone. They will get max for their level.

Well see I need to know if there are any issues with normal leveling with class/race combos that shouldn't technically exist.

I can make those really quick-like tonight and add them to the tutorial zone for testing purposes. I guess we'll just have to find normal leveling bugs on release if any exist that aren't caught using this method :(.



Also, talking with Secrets last night I came to the realization that people are REALLY tired of progression or classic type servers. Would it be a more preferable situation to start the server at Velious, and slowly unlock PoP and then Luclin over an extended amount of time rather than a progression server situation?

Should it just release at Velious and never go past, or should I just stick with my original idea?

So many opinions xD!

I do not play on any server really, but yeah there are a ton of progressions servers that always come and go. I do not see what the point of it is. Everyone seems to think they can recreate classic, but it is not the same.

That said, make the serve YOU want. Not what you think everyone else would want. Making something for everyone else turns into what Drak did wrong on Valyndria, and many other server ops have learned over the years.

Yea, I'm going to be changing it from progression to starting a Velious and locking it there.

I'll also be unlocking Frogloks and Vah`Shir.

Hopefully i'll have the changes in by sometime this afternoon.
