NooB to EQEmu, quick tips requested plz =x
 

Heya, been playing EQ for several years now, and really im getting rather sick of it, this makes it all more interesting to me! I was wondering, even though i really really want to do one thing i think it'd be best to start off by just Playing EQEmu. Some questinos=
After installing, will i still be able to play EQ? and how?
are there any specific other programs that i really need to just play it?
and basically i would Really appreciate it if anyone could post a few tips plz =/ thank you!

Awsome thanks alot, now i have just a few more=
When running a server, can you put level limits on, like no one can level past 52? Can you make AA points accessable at certain levels?
Can you actually change the stats of Items/effects, exc.
Can you create a spawn, to be perm? Like if he dies he will always pop back.
Is there a good website anywhere for i can view some screenshots and get some ideas?

As long as you run your own server, you can create spawns, permanent spawns, create items and modify existing ones, in fact, you can almost modify everything. Try this with EqAdmin... consult the readme for how to install the software and the databases.

for AA points, they arent working yet...
for the level limitations, well i dont know, i guess that you could if you modify the source code, developpers might answer you better that i do i think :)

anyway, you'll need to spend a few hours to understand how everything works, read the tutorials and search in the forum each time you need something, and you'll find lots of usefull tips on how customizing your own world !

creating/modifying spells, yes
altering the zone structures, yes, but that's much more complicated and requires some skills :)

Came up with more questions ~_~

A) Can you rename zones?
B) is it possible to turn a Walk-in zoneline into a Key needed zoneline? (example: Fear portal)
C) is it possible to have the aa option, without haveing Luclin as a playable area?
D) When you first start a server, is it from scratch? no mobs exc.
E) (along with D) can you use the original EQ (we're talkin before Cazic-thule the zone was even changed)
F) Do the Live EQ affects, effect EQEmu (example= the new exp group experience adjustment from 20% to 80%)
G) Is it Possible to connect a zoneline, to another zoneline to another area (example, if you zone through the Crushbone zoneline, you'll end up in the plane of time) just an example.

I would recommend you not change the zoneshortname, as these are hardcoded into the client executable. However, I have had no trouble in the past changing the zone long name, although it won't always be reported as what you change it to.

Yes. You use world building scripts to populate the database. Some distributions may include a script for you.

There is no original cazic thule script out there right now. Feel free to make one. Feel free to change any mobs in any zones in your world. You are in control.

You are not likely to find any scripts out there for old zones that have since been updated on EQLive.

The two main world builders have worked hard at replicating all EQLive zones as it stands, but their work is not yet complete. There may even be some innaccuracies.

For serverside changes in EQLive, no. However, the dev team will try to keep up with observed changes. Just don't expect it.

Yes. There are several servers out there that have already done this - Alkora is an example.

Zone creation/alteration of size/shape/textures/etc. will be available soon. Until then, do not try this at home.

Im working on tons of plans with friends, we have alot of ideas flowing through and discussing it for a new server. Then again i spose everyone whom starts out with EQEmu, as with many things, begin with high hopes and fresh ideas. ~_~

Can you make zonelines?


Like, lets say ur in gfay, and u want to put a small zoneline in the side of the wall all the way in a corner to a diff zone (where a zoneline normaly isnt)

i started using eqemu admin tool 4.6 today. was wondering about the map area in the spawn tab. my box is black. i assume you need some map files to see an actual map? if so i assume its not the same maps in the everquest folder. where can i get the maps for this program please. thanks in advance.
