Database Request
 

Is it possible to ask Verant or Sony or whoever for their DB? Lol. Simple solution to a hail-pulling problem. Or getting a GM to packet collect nightly?


I mean, I shaved my head because I got tired of pulling my hair out, so I mean, could we try? Simple answer please, no ranting on how stupid I am, if I am a newbie so be it!! lets come up with some things to help DB creating along, I am enthusiastic to help with the project, and I have only been here since march, so I want to stay on for a year or two more.

Yes i'm sure SOE would be glad to give out their DB to a project that lets people play their game for free. I mean hell why wouldn't they, right?

I'm really getting tired of people desperatly trying to prove they are helping the project, instead of making a post saying you want to help, go do something helpful.

heh, ask sony to hand over their database, and you know, of course it's going to be perfectly compatible with eqemu! Ever try to ask a GM about some lore? they just laugh at you.

*Exhales slowly* Well, I woulden't call this pointless, and you know, what right to insult me, critiscise me, or humiliate me do you have? I have a passion to learn, help, and progress in EQEmu, at least I have that. Well, I didn't know that giving us their db would be such a big deal, and so maybe it was a stupid post, but I wan't to know what I can do to help, I'll be more than willing to do it. Hell, I respect EQEmu Devs and people, but it is when people talk crap about me when I try to do something good that I get pissed off, and I got carried away with the whole worshipping thing. Its not a crime to respect, but it is to asskiss, besides, I'm sure none of the people on the list would agree with you when you say asskissing is bad :wink: .

Anyway, someone tell me what I can do, not just "Do something to help us" I want to know what. Can I packet Collect? What can I do?

Alright, we've beat on Theo enough. He's young and inexperienced in the world. A good schooling never hurt anyone. Theo, it's a silly idea because Sony's profit comes from those DBs.

They are an asset on a balance sheet. Corporations don't give those away; trust me. If 30% of your company's or division's claimed value is in that database or product, you don't give it away and forgive copyright violations, or allow open copying of it. This is Sony we're talking about. The Japanese have nothing on their puny island except fish and pearls and hardworking individuals. They can't start to give away their work or they go broke.

It's sad but true. These are the facts, and I know you're too young to know all of this for a fact. If we ask, we risk revealing ourselves to people whom I'd prefer wouldn't know we exist. It's a dangerous gamble with little or no reward possible.

These are the people who charge you $50 to move your character from server to server (sql extract record, sql merge record). This is DB work. If it's $50 to move, what do you think a master db costs?

EDIT: That list of respected people is missing about 50! :lol:

Try... Kathgar, Scorpious, Myra, tcsmyworld, neotokyo, quagmire, hogie, oh Windcatcher!!! and Kaiyodo, Trumpcard, LethalEncounter, that doofus-savant Eglin who won't just sign up for Dev status already, omper (yeah you belong up there too), Magick, Doodman, Zaphod, Lurker_005, and I forget many, many others who came before. Many of them belong way above me on the list.

I get scared when I thank people, because I know I left out about 50% of the people I was hoping to thank.

Now I see.......................Sony is making their money from those things, I thought there was different things to consider. A_Guest, I apologize for being ignorant, stupid, and inexpierenced. :x And as much as I hate to admit it, I am inexpierienced, and too young to understand very complicated things (note the very).

But, I do understand complicated things, I am 9 years ahead of my age, and that is not very old. If everyone must know I am under 15, but I speak wise and am very open to opinions, facts, and criticism, and most of all, learning.

There are many things I do not grasp the concept of, but I am on my way, and I wish to only reach out and touch the world. I am concentrated on doing something that might make something out of my life.

I want to do something that would make feel good, knowing that I helped, and I wish to be known not as a pointless poster or newbie, but as a respected member.

My Question: What Do I have to do to get that??
