New Everquest Server Idea...

Everquest, relive the story.
I don't know about you all but sometimes when I sit in Plane of Tactics pulling guys that hit for 475 I wonder to myself, 'what the happened to the good ole days?' So here's the new server idea:

The storyline is reset. The server starts off as being an old world only server. There are no new expansions, no Kunark, nothing past the original release- there is only the old Norrath. Firona Vie hasn't been kidnapped, the Icebreaker hasn't been created, and we haven't shot a cat to the moon. As people progress in levels they will defeat Nagafen, Vox, old Cazic, and learn about Bayle's corruption. When they defeat certain encounters, the storyline progresses. As an example once old Innoruuk, Cazic, Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox have been defeated, then Firona Vie becomes kidnapped and Kunark is available to explore.

Once Kunark is opened people can then advance to level 60, complete their epic quests, and find Firona Vie. After they defeat certain figures key to the kunark storyline (not necessarily every head boss of every zone) the story progresses and the gnomes create the Icebreaker and discover Velious.

Everquest has had an amazing storyline and at this point it's turning into the end of the world (literally). This would allow people to be able to experience the old zones and adventures without the latest expansions messing with the mix.

From the Verant point of view this would do a few things- entice older nostalgic players into becoming more active in Everquest and show how the game has been constantly added on from the existing product which will encourage them to purchase Everquest 2 when it is ready. I know it would do this for me at least.

If you would be interested in this sort of thing please email Verant at eqfeedback@soe.sony.com saying you would be interested in playing on a Everquest Classic Server.

Also when you send out this email please copy me at eq_classic_server@hotmail.com so I can keep record of all the positive responses.

It is an excellent idea.....but one that probably won't happen with Sony at the helm. Verant focused on making the game fun, Sony focused on making more money. Do you think it was coincidence that all the expansions after Velious pretty much required you to buy them to play the game? The rush of expansion pack after expansion pack as we near the release of EQ2? Not to meantion the rising subcription costs, they rake in millions a month from that and yet they still raise the monthly costs. That sense of greed and disregard to what EQ really is is what made me dislike the Live version of the game. If something remotely like that happens it will be here.

No of course they wont do that because it would require a measure of thought and that is to hard because they would rather just put in stupid little dungens to kill mobs. I personaly find that everquest has shifted away from its name. Quest is in there as it is intended to be most of an RPG. Granted Live still has some RPG elements but i find my self more and more just. "run to camp, Kill, Heal, Repeat" it has become esetnaly a hack and slash. And i dont know if anyone cares.

EQ had a storyline?

I guess with all the mindless drone of killing everything in sight, i forgot about that.

Damn I thought this would be a new EQEMU server. If Sony EVER did this I would come back and play. Hopefully someone here will do this exact same thing someday. There absolutely could be no server transfers though if Sony did this.

Sounds interesting

sounds impossible, you would just get an usual rush of farmers that would lvl up like hell just to be the first ones to kill the dragons, reach kunark, ding 60, kill kunark dragons, reach velious, kill velious nameds... etc etc...
I think EQ is dead because players killed it, it was fun at the beginning, now its just industrial. all is a question of ratios and stats. that's why i liked wintersroar so much, custom content that was allowing players to rediscover some zones that have nothing challenging anymore on live.
