Running my own server
 

I have interest in creating a server for myself and coupld of friends. I have a relatively decent second computer waisting im my closet. I was wondering if someone could tell me how difficult setting up a server is. I have a good knowledge of C++, Java, MySQL and html. I dont really know much about linex but it is my understanding that if i run linex on my second computer then it will run faster. Does anyone know where I could get some statistics relating computer specs and how well the game should run as well as a full step by step guide as to how i would accomplish my goal?
