Zone Question
I have a few questions, is there anyway to boot your zones without using the boot5zones.bat? As of right now I have the computer running the server boot 9 zones on demand and the world.exe as its got some nice specs. Then my other computer I have it boot 8 zones all linking into the sql database on the computer with world.exe. Then i did all the wonderful port fowarding.
When I first started my server i had one computer running world.exe and 12 zones, there was alot of LD issues. My question is assuming boot5zones.bat is the only program to boot up the zones and such what is the reccomended amount of zones per computer should i have max?? Last question, I have some RL friends who might be able to host the some more zones too as our server is becoming more and more popular, how would i edit the boot5zones.bat for them? I know it has two different spots for the ip address :) Then to grant them acess to the mysql database what would i put in place for the @localhost in the grant option? Thanks! BTW running server version 5.3DR3 |
the boot5zones.bat is really just a template...
here is what i use... Code:
start minilogin.exe for your friends u can to this there bootzones.bat: Code:
start zone . [there ip address] 7997 [your world ip address] |
Thanks for the help!
Also how many zones do you normally have booted on one computer? |
you can have a lot of zones on a server, depending on ram/cpu.
but you will have horrible performance running zones remotely from your database, especially over cable/dsl unless you have a very fast connection between them. |
I have a cable connection in all so remotely running zone servers wouldnt help. No matter how many folks are connected to my server, whenever we try to do a event alot of the people outside of my LAN go LD. I am guessing that maybe theres not enough bandwidth to transfer the data needed?? Hrmm maybe a dedicated server solution or getting a T-3 line to my place would work (GRIN)
