I downloaded EQ via the patcher but now having issues
Hi, I had lost my eq cd's and downloaded EQ right after discord came out from the patcher. i made 2 folders 'eq' and 'eqemu' and had all the files in both, i changed the EQhosts file like the faq says on the eqemu one but it would not let me log in, so i tried my eqlive account and it logged me into eqlive! even though the eqhosts file has changed! can any one help? i am using eqwin if that matters at all (i do not like eq's built in windowed mode)

When you run the emu, does it go straight to the startup screen or does it run through the live patcher? If it tries to patch, you might want to check your shortcut. Make sure that it is to eqgame.exe and not everquest.exe. Check your eqhost file and see if it is still set to the emu or if it changed back....
|
Nope, its not patching... Eqwin has a 'do not patch' option. and the eqhost file is staying the same, usually when you patch it will 'fix' it.
|
Is your shortcut pointing to eqgame.exe or everquest.exe?
|
actually its pointing to the eqwin.exe ... lemme change it to the actual file when i get home and see if thats whats skrewing it up.. thanks! :)

No problem, hopefully that will fix it. I'm not really sure though, I've never used eqwindows before. Good luck :D
|
Also note, that you will have to play on the servers listed as 0.5.5 DR1, as the others are NOT compatible with the patch from either the 10th of Feb, OR the 18th of Feb.

OK, I went home last night and changed the shortcut from eqwin to the normal eqgame.exe patchme link, and im still having the same deal... it's trying to go to the normal EQ server even though eqhost.txt has the eqemu hosts listed... this is for the log-in server before i even get to any server list.

Well, I'm not really sure then. If you've got your eqhost right and you're using the right shortcut, I don't know why it wouldn't work. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge than me can answer this for you. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck getting it working...... Try something real quick though.... try getting it to work without eqwindows. I don't know if that will make a difference or not but it wouldn't hurt to try. Good luck

Also, check your eqhost file again. It will change back to live when you patch. I'm thinking that it should be something pretty simple... If the eqhost is right and you're shortcut is right, there's no reason that it should be taking you to the live patcher....

Post the contents of your eqhost.txt file in the eq directory that you want to play eqemu from.. Also make sure that your shortcut in the target says "c:\eqemu\eqgame.exe patchme" (without quotes), your directory may differ, just make sure that it is pointing to the directory that you are wanting to play from.
When you patch eqlive, it fixes the eqhost.txt to read as it did originally, you will have to redo your eqhost.txt file everytime you patch to eqlive.... |
ok i went home at lunch and figured out whats wrong, and its kinda weird.. i erased the Eqhost.txt file from the \eqemu directory and ran my shortcut (\eqemu\eqgame.exe patchme) and it still went to the live server, so im like, yeah , something is out of wack here.. so i went to my \eq directory (where i keep my EQlive eq) and changed the eqhost.txt file there then ran my shortcut and it worked... so its using the files from \eq where it was originally installed and not the files in \eqemu where i copied everything too, im assuming there is a .ini that tells eq where the files are, anyone know what file that is ?
