As far as I know EQEmu is live compatible, works for me at least.

I cn log in fine..get through the server screen..the character create screen...and the enter world...but afte that point..I get a splash screen for loading zone files...and then...a black screen..endlessly......and cant get into the world..

Thats not a problem that back patching will fix. Try reinstalling
