armless guards.
 

I noticed guards don't use their arms, they only kick. Guards use their arms only when you attack them, but if a mob agroes them they only kick. You can see this clearly in NK, I set the guards to attack any mob that agroes them. If you give them any hand held weapon they will not use it, If they spawn with a sword they do not use it either.

I am using dr2 + perl 5.8 + mysql 4.023 + velius release DB.

They're just being thrifty.

Do you find it necessary to use your feet AND arms to kill a mouse? :D

The reason I am asking is because if this was a city guard, it would take a long time to kill a mouse, and of course the noob that ran to the guard would be killed several times over while the guard practices kicking a mouse.
