How is your ISP blocking this?
|
He may be at school, those school networks like to block everything. If you are at home though it's a good chance just your router is messing you up. If thats the case it can be fixed.
|
I highly doubt anyone is going to be interested in hosting a server just for you and your friends.

im on a shared t-1 connection that my appartments provide the tennants and thus i have no access to the routers or dhcp server, i can run the server i can connect to it i can play on it but noone can do so through the logn servr but me because im on the computer its on and it sees it as loccal. Ive spent days trying to work around my isp to no avail, i am a web dev and system admin trust meif i could get around it i would. they dont have to take care of the server i can do that myself all i need is a place for it to be
( PS: My IP Is static and is shared with 400 other appartments.) |
1 IP for 400 apartments? Youch. That must get quite annoying for day-to-day stuff, like IRC DCC (or any Instant Messenger File Transfer) or like, gaming.

a t-1 is made for up to 1000 connections and no actually its rather fast it isnt DSL or cable its faster then both
|
lol... i love how every internet connection in the world which isnt modem, cable, or DSL is a "t1" to everybody... LMAO....
a t1 is defined as a 1.544Mb/s dedicated line made up of 24 56Kb voice channels, which can be aggregated to produce the full bandwidth for data use... none the less, its definately not faster than DSL or cable and would be miserable to share with more than a few people. |
dude i know what my connection is ive been in this buisiness quite a long time and have SETUP t-1s for he company i used to work for so dont assume im some kid without a clue. might want to research more on a t-1 its 1.44 mps PER CONNECTION (gee maybe thats why so many hosting providers use them, but what do i know right ive only been doing this crap for 18 years) Infact caesars palace rght down the road ( Who i worked for as a system administrator) uses their t-1 connection for 5000 + connections so hw about before assuming you check and find out just how much someone really knows before thinking you know it all.
EDIT ADDING SOME T-1 Info If your office has a T1 line, it means that the phone company has brought a fiber optic line into your office (a T1 line might also come in on copper). A T1 line can carry 24 digitized voice channels, or it can carry data at a rate of 1.544 megabits per second. If the T1 line is being used for telephone conversations, it plugs into the office's phone system. If it is carrying data it plugs into the network's router. A T1 line can carry about 192,000 bytes per second -- roughly 60 times more data than a normal residential modem. It is also extremely reliable -- much more reliable than an analog modem. Depending on what they are doing, a T1 line can generally handle quite a few people. For general browsing, hundreds of users are easily able to share a T1 line comfortably. |
T1 connection may be faster on the upload end than most Cable/DSL today but most cable that I know of kills it in d/l speed. T1 = 1.54 Mbits up and down. Cable is rated at 5 Mbits down here, if I run a speed test I usually get between 4500 and 4850 kilobits per second down here. I would be willing to bet if you truly are on a T1 you wont get that much ever. Expecially shared with that many people. If enough people in your complex fire up a bittorrent I bet it's painful.
