Timeout error. Tried other solutions. Information inside.

I set up the minilogin correctly (everything in the guide says i did it right, down to what the cmd prompt would say). I just can't get connected in EQ because i keep getting timeout errors.

I read in a previous post that deleting the second ] that was placed in eqhost fixed it, but doing that for me did nothing. I did get the public server working correctly, but I wanted to do a private LAN server so I am trying this.

Is there anything you see in the above files thats placed wrong? Below is also a SS of the 3 cmd windows to show what is being done with the server.

My eqemu-config says:

Code:

<?xml version="1.0">
<server>
<world>
<shortname>minilogin</shortname>
<longname>my minilogin</longname>
<!-- Only specify these two if you really think you need to. -->
<address>192.168.1.XXX</address>
<localaddress>127.0.0.1</localaddress>
<!-- Loginserver information. -->
<loginserver>
<host>192.168.1.XXX</host>
<port>5999</port>
<account></account>
<password></password>
</loginserver>
<!-- Sets the shared key used by zone/launcher to connect to world -->
<key>some long random string</key>
<!-- Enable and set the port for the HTTP service. -->
<http port="9080" enabled="true" mimefile="mime.types" />
</world> <!-- Database configuration, replaces db.ini. -->
<database>
<host>localhost</host>
<port>3306</port>
<username>root</username>
<password>wolfj3eee</password>
<db>peq</db>
</database>
</server>

Loginserver says

Code:

[LoginServer]
loginserver=192.168.1.XXX
loginport=5999
worldname=my minilogin
worldaddress=192.168.1.XXX
locked=false
account=
password=

[WorldServer]
Defaultstatus=
Unavailzone=

[ChatChannelServer]
worldshortname=
chataddress=
chatport=

[LoginConfig]
ServerMode=MiniLogin
ServerPort=5999

and eqhost says
Code:

[LoginServer]

Host=192.168.1.XXX:5999

[LoginServer]
Host=xp-smitchell:7308
Host1=

(I hid the last 3 of my IP for security, the last 3 do match on all areas.)

[LoginServer]

Host=192.168.1.XXX:5999

[LoginServer]
Host=xp-smitchell:7308 <-----shouldn't this be 5999?
Host1=

This is my quickest guess.

Other guesses may take more time and info. :)

What is all this, just out of curiosity?

Code:

[LoginServer]
Host=xp-smitchell:7308
Host1=

You dont need any second references for multiple ways to connect to the minilogin. The first line in your eqhost is all that you need.

The biggest beef I had when doing the minilogin section of the guide was Firewalls. I timed out every time even though I gave all the ports access, all the programs access, ect.... I eventually had to shutdown windows firewall altogether. Now I did the minilogin section under Vista which I see you have so I would suggest going to it and turning it off and see what happens. Dont worry about your router or anything as your are completly internal and it's settings dont matter.

As techguy said, the second line of eqhost.txt was not needed. I spent another hour or two going over and over of files and see what I did wrong, and the eqhost was it.

I'm not sure what created the second login. Everytime I would delete it it would reappear when I tried to connect, so something is writing it there. What I ended up doing was restarting (I never restarted during any of this, could be a reason I suppose), and went and changed the eqhost to just my IP address. Deleted that second line of junk.

I can see more of this happening. In order to prevent future problems with timeout, it might be a good idea to let people know in that guide (when and if you do a new one) or post a sticky in FAQ or something so people know that it was an issue. I went over this forum several times and nothing was mentioned that this could be a problem, but thats the only thing I changed.

Thanks for helping guys. I would have posted a reply sooner saying I fixed it but I got caught up in running around EQ just killing a few old friends and the next thing I knew it was 7am, hehe. then I went to bed and just woke up.

You guys are doing an amazing job, and thank you mostly to the guy who made the walkthrough guide. it was a Godsend!

I have never seen that second line get added in any of my test setting up a server. I have done it more than ten times from start to finish both on the server, and ten on the install of Titanium, and never ever seen it do that. Dont know what is going on with yours.

same thing happening

I'm getting the EXACT SAME error message. Timeout occurs, and getting that XP-mitchell blah blah in my eqhost file. I've switched it, removed that line, and it KEEPS coming back.

I put it exactly how I wanted it, made sure that it looks like this:
[LoginServer]
Host=192.168.1.xxx:5999

on 2 seperate lines (for some reason, I didn't think to change it on copy/paste).

Made the file read-only (I DONT LIKE THINGS CHANGING MY FILES!!!) :)

it got past the timeout. now it just is stuck on "logging into the server, please wait"...

but that's another topic...

Hope this helps!

Well, I am just at a loss for words regarding the xp-smitchell thing. The only thing I can think of is that.... well, its best not mentioned here, but Its the only conclusion that I can come up with. PM's incoming...
