Cant enter character select screen
 

I just got eqemu last night and so im a big noob on this-
I got it all set up last night, or so i thought.
I can't enter the character select screen.
and i have windows xp so a error report window pops up .
any thoughts on this? i have the latest version.. have eqw2.2
got mysql working... oh yeah i cant get my zones to connect to the server. but main.exe does connect properly to gotfrags login

You probably are running into the area that I know the least--

from server select to just before char select.

There is not much that should go wrong but I have seen a couple of people post the problem of a crash just before getting to the char select.

First, I would recommend that you do "client only" and make sure that you can connect to some existing server.

this is how you do the client-only:

This tells you that you are doing everything right on the client side.

Then change your eqhost.txt to point to your server (either localhost for a one box or some IP for a multibox setup).

Because you can't get to the char select screen, looking at the zone screens won't do any good.

So the only two screens of interest are the minilogin server screen and the world server screen.

My log from my own server when I try to log on is this.

Hope it's some help.

I notice a couple of things:
first, I don't see any DEBUG messages-- am I the only one getting those?

And your breakdown is happening before it is finished with the char loading. I don't know how to duplicate this problem.

Lighthawk, you posted the data from the minilogon window and I think madborg was asking for the world data.

I got it to work fine now, I reinstalled Direct x 8.1 and my video drivers.

I always hate it when something is magically fixed. Unfortunately it has happened to me a few things so I know that it can happen.

But I also believe that you could have found the problem faster if you had gone directly to the login server first and selected gotfrags from the server list.

I think a fair test for going from"server select" to
"character select"

is to suspect the client-side. In that case, I would suggest that people try to go through the login server and select a server such as gotfrags.
