EQ will not load on customized Server 2003
Windows 2003 eXPerience Edition (not legit)
eqgame.exe will not start. I never get to the EULA screen. I get a loading pointer for a second, a black box flashes, and then nothing. No errors (error boxes) are shown in this hack of windows, things simply crash quietly. Not sure how to enable error messages. Fresh titanium install, Nvidia drivers are up to date, hardware acceleration is on, DirectX 9.0c and everything up, refresh and resolutions are set to monitor native, and I tried the config OptionsEditor.exe. Below is my eqclient.ini after running the config utility (took out the model info to save space). [Defaults] Sound=TRUE TextureQuality=1 VertexShaders=TRUE 20PixelShaders=TRUE 14PixelShaders=TRUE 1xPixelShaders=TRUE MultiPassLighting=FALSE UseLitBatches=TRUE [VideoMode] RefreshRate=60 Width=1440 Height=900 WidthWindowed=1440 HeightWindowed=900 Please refrain from flaming about the OS. I would like help determining what components are absent/haywire. As a sidenote, HL2 works just fine and StarCraft works after patching. |
Have you tried it on Windows XP itself. Truth be told, I cant really think of why anyone would want Win Server 2003 for casual use.
All the settings look fine in your ini file so I dont know. |

[VideoMode] Dax |
Dax is right on, I think. Many people (including myself now) have a major issue with resolution. My native is 1680x1050 or some odd beast like that, and upon creating a new eqclient.ini, EQ crashes every time it starts. If I force to Windowed, and 800x600 to at least get into the game, I can usually fix the video from within.

For one thing, that "eXPerience edition" is a fake. Yes, yes I know it's supposed to be a modded 2003 with XP features turned on, but what it really is is a whole lot of trojans.
Don't believe me? Try running some scans on it. |

XP is all of what $90 bucks now for a full Home Edition, which is pretty much Professional for what we all need. I can justify someone pirating Vista Ultimate, but XP is just sad to pirate anymore. Here we go, links for all to see, Windows XP Home OEM - 89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116056 Windows XP MC Edition OEM - 109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116049 Windows XP Professional OEM - 139.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116059 All of these are OEM copys, which of course function just like the normal copies except you dont get that cool 10'x12' box for a CD and a stupid pointless manual. If you can uses a pirated copy of Windows, your more than qualified to operate a OEM copy. Sure OEM is for new systems only, but Microsoft doesnt care if you through it on something that is 5 years old, so long as your not putting it on 10 5 year old PC's. My money went to MC Edition. Perfect balance of features and price. Hell, now a days, Linux Tech Supported Distros can cost this much, as well as Mac OS, so no one can knock Microsoft for charging to much for a sound stable OS. |
