Not talking to correct login server

Okay, I swear I'm not an idiot poster, but I'm just missing something very obvious here.

Whenever I start up the game and get past the launchpad, it seems to be talking to the SOE login server. I have changed eqhost.txt exactly as it says in the wiki (Host=eqemulator.net:5998 beneath the [LoginServer] heading) and followed all the steps through the process twice now - after uninstalling and reinstalling everything, including launchpad. I've created a login account here (actually two now because I wanted to make sure that wasn't it), installed EQ Titanium, edited eqhost.txt, run eqgame.exe with the patchme switch and every time it seems to be connecting to SOE's servers.

It's accepted my old station login and pass. The login and password I've created here doesn't work.

When I run a netstat, I see it talking to various station servers. Nowhere do I see eqemu or any other IP address that I would think I'd see in there.

What obvious step am I missing?

That's your problem right there. If you get the new launchpad you will not be able to connect. You need the old Platinum install in order to be able to connect, if it patches then it will not work.

Also, if it's accepting your old station name you are probably connecting to Sony's server not the EQEMU login server. Be sure that you have updated your client's host file.

verify that the link you are using to launch the game correctly has the eqgame.exe patchme line in it. Right-click->properties to verify it.

I have found that sometimes the links are cached (like the one in the start menu) with the old link to everquest.exe.
