cannot connect to the server

Not sure why but i cant connect to a friends server. It is not locked but when i click play from server select screen it sits there then kicks me to login screen. Friend has his firewalls disabled. what else could it be?

He needs to open port 9000 and also 7000-7100 range. He has to do this via port range forwarding on his router.
