3 toons?

My wife plays a toon but Id like to play one nd box another.. of course we are using the same connection with a router.

Is there a rule against this? is there something I can do about it?

If you are running a minilogin server you will notice alot of strange errors while boxing from the same computer. If you are connecting to a public server it depends on that server's rules. The easiest way to find out a server's rules is to check its website, if it has one, or ask in OOC on that server.
Also, if you are going to box on a public server please do it with multiple accounts. One account for each character you are going to have logged in at the same time. Logging in multiple characters from the same account at the same time causes alot of issues server side.

If the servOP doesnt want people from the same ip connecting more than once or twice he can set the limit via the config. So if you try on a server and it fails, move to another.

Using more than 1 char from an acct shouldn't cause any problems, we orig coded it that way so you can have more than 1 char active at a time. Now if someone went and fucked up that code in the last 2 years that might not be the case.

so theoretically I could log into my 1 account on two seperate machines?

Not if the server limits your total connections per IP. For example, my server has an IP limit of 3 connections. This means that only 3 characters can be used per household no matter how many PCs or accounts you are using.

In regards to what devn00b said; Yes, you can play more than 1 character per account at the same time (as long as there isn't an IP limit set that is restricting it), but there are issues with doing so. If you play more than 1 character on the same account at the same time, you will be disconnected very often when one of the characters zone. So, it is highly recommended to only play 1 character at a time per account. Personally, I would love to see a restriction added that only allows 1 character per account at a time similar to EQLive. Since it is free to register as many accounts as you want in the emu, there really is no reason that playing more than 1 character per account should be allowed. Especially considering the issues it causes.

I would like to add, this seems to get the 2 sessions confused, and will swap the 2 connections. Example: playing Character 1 on Account 1 on Client 1, Character 2 on Account 1 on Client 2, after zoning a few times, Character 2 will be on Client 1 and Character 1 will be on Client 2 (if you can get them back on at the same time). Needless to say, that was VERY annoying, and really jacked up my UI since the UI was for the character the client was expecting

Although it limits character boxing capabilities (can only group chars on acct 1 w/ acct 2), I personally just created a 2nd loginserver account for 2-boxing.

As awesome as it would be to get back the functionality to log into multiple characters on the same account without issues, I have no idea where to even start looking to fix something like that.

Ya, I see no reason not to remove the ability to log in more than 1 character per account at the same time. This has been discussed a little in this post:

Though, it seems like any progress on getting that implemented has been stopped for now.
