hi, "May need to re-run patch" when trying to log into server. I *did* launch everquest the legitimate way( no patchme) by accident. did this screw up my entire game? am i going to have to re download everything now?

Yep, you will probably need to reinstall. I feel for you since I have done the same thing a few times. Though one suggestion, if you have the hard drive space create a backup of EQ after you finish installing it. That way if you ever start EQ without "patchme" you can just copy/paste the backup copy over the used one.
