IRC Connection problems
I always have problems connecting to irc.eqemulator.net. Sometimes I just let it sit there and try over and over until it works, which can take 70-80 times some days. Today I decided to ping irc.eqemulator.net and this is what it looks like:
Pinging irc.eqemulator.net [64.251.21.39] with 32 bytes of Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for 64.251.21.39: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), Any idea what would cause me to have 100% packet loss at times? This is the only thing I have any problem connecting to. Also just in case my router was the problem. I forwarded port 6667 and 113 for Ident with no change. Not sure what else would cause it. |
eqemulator.net can't be pinged due to its firewall, it's normal.

Ahh ok, that explains the 100% packet loss pinging...still dunno why I can't connect without a ton of tries :(

I can't help you with that one, I always get on the first try using that address and port. Sorry :(

It's something to do with my network, I just can't figure out what. I moved to a new house last week it did the same thing at both houses. At the moment I am blaming my router..I don't know what else it could be.

Sometimes certain router types (I know Linksys' do this) will get corrupted when you adjust the port forwarding, or if you have more than just a couple of ports forwarded for a while. I don't know what causes it and it can trigger at any time. I keep about 10 ports forward entries in my router at any given time and this problem happens to me every year or so even on different Linksys routers. After it happens, flakey things will start happening with connections. The only solutions I know of to fix it is either restoring your router's factory defaults by holding in the reset button (a small hole in the back of the router, which you need to use a pen or something to press) for 10 seconds until the router lights blink and then set your router up again the way it was before, or to try using a different firmware revision for the router (WW-DRT is really cool). If the router is your problem, I think this suggestion is probably your best bet to try first and see if it helps.

I used to have a linksys that I actually bricked trying to flash DD-WRT haha...I replaced it with a netgear...although I have never in 2 months had to reset this router once ( so I can't complain too much ) It appears to hate IRC.

Same problem with a Cisco 2800. Never had any issues getting on in the past, which was three years ago. Name resolves to 24.218.123.114, which looks right.

I used a web client to connect to the IRC server and it connected to a different ip address, which when I put in my client that was having trouble connected right up. You can probably try the same on one of your other routers Paaco.

I usually try between these different addresses..
irc.eqemulator.net eqnet.eqemulator.net irc.eq2emulator.net rogean.eqemulator.net eqnet usually works the most.. shrug I myself definantly have router issues like trevius pointed out. |
