Missing Named NPCs

Now that I can actually log in, I've been testing some GM commands and zoning into various zones.

Two things I have noticed:
1. Even if the mobs con red and scowl, they do not attack. I have checked the EQEmu/maps file and it is present for all the zones I have been to. Incidentally, if I attack one, they most certainly attack back, but not until I purposefully agro them - they will not agro from distance/proximity.
2. Named mobs are missing. I zoned into VP and I see all the statics and roamers with the exception of the named dragons: Hoshkar, Silverwing, Phara Dar, etc.

Can someone comment? I am using the latest install pack from PEQ (I think it is 1110).

TIA.

hellos
1: might it be that you are using a gm character to do this testing? think thats why npcs arnt agroing.

2: no help to you on this one, never even been to the zone myself, sad i know... ;) maybe the npcs are triggered via perl script rather than normal timed spawns or something to that nature?

Thanks for the ideas!

Yes, the character that is not agroing is a character flagged as a GM (status 200, /gm on). I will try with a regular character in a lower zone.

As far as I remember, there weren't any scripted events in VP making the mobs spawn, but it's a possibility. I'll check another zone with a few nameds that I know do not require a script and see what happens.

1110 is way out of date, everything is on 1129 now

if you go here it lists all the latest stuff for PEQ

On the mobs not aggroing issue, if you have your GM flag up, they will not aggro you. You will have to turn it off if you want them to aggro.

Thank you - yes it was the GM flag.

on the PEQ site, it has a bunch of possible update packages, the latest being 1129. To get from 1110 to 1129 can I just install the latest update or do I have to do them sequentially?

Nevermind, I just ran the update installer and it seems to have worked, but I am still unsure how to find the source code and db version numbers to ensure they match.

Open up your database using whichever program you want to use, navigate to your spawn2 archive (<database> > spawn2), find whichever zone you're looking for and find the mobs with info in their respective 'variance' and 'timeleft' columns. Entries with those filled are nine out of ten times named mobs, so..er...yeah.

Thanks for that, it's getting me closer.

Can I not just enter a "#spawn Hoshkar" command and have Hoshkar the dragon from VP pop up where I am?

You need to know the npcid of the mob you are trying to spawn. Generally the way mobs are listed are by zone. VP is zone number 108, so all mobs in that zone are 108000, 1080001, etc. In my database Hoskhar's ID is 108043 so you would go into VP, type #npctypespawn 108043 to spawn him wherever you wanted. This is only temporary since you have to add him to the database if you want him to stay there. Basically I would try and get your database to the most up to date revision before you do anything else. If you haven't you need to use WinCVS to d/l it. Just do some searching around, there is a sticky on how to use it. Also the server guide tells you how to set it up. And if you don't already have them, I would recommend GeorgeS's tools which can be found farther down the forum list. They help tremendously. And if he doesn't mind I'll link you to his tutorial about spawning NPCs which is very useful.
