The MQ2 threads
I archived the MQ2 threads, and am announcing that any talk of how or where to get MQ2 or any of its plugins is barred from this forum. I got several PMs sent to me by pissed off (but mostly civil) server ops who do want MQ2 used on their servers. Despite my feelings on the topic, and the rules on PEQ I must respect the views of the other server ops as we are after all a community.
I apologize to anybody who is inconvenienced by this decision. |
The people rejoice.

I agree completely with this decision.

Yeormom, you mentioned you were able to bar any use of MQ2 from your server. I asked about it in one of the threads that was archived, but didn't make it back here to see if there was a response.
Is that something you're planning to contribute here at some point? I'm kind of excited about the possibility, quite honestly. That was the #1 nuisance for me running a server, was policing the use of MQ2 amongst the players. The rules we have in place so far are a huge help, and we have TheLieka and the TZ/VZ team to thank for them, but as CD and Trevius have noted, there's still lots more detection that is needed. Thanks for any reply you can offer. And sorry if this is putting you on the spot at all =X |
Yeah, I mostly agree with this decision as well. I never thought MQ2 discussions were really meant for these boards in the first place. I do allow minimal use of it on my server similar to PEQ, but even there I don't allow people to openly discuss it. It is more of a "if you have it, you have it" sort of thing. Of course the nasty hacks are bannable though.
The only reason I didn't start speaking up against the MQ2 posts is because they were both clear on not using the plugins that are considered cheating on just about all servers (warp, ghost, level macros, etc). If those plugins were never made, I doubt many people would have a problem with it being used. While I am not exactly for giving out MQ2 to players, I would much rather them get a pre-compiled version that doesn't include the "bad" plugins than to get one from one of their friends that includes all of the nasty stuff. By making an easy way for them to get the good version, it seems like it would be much less likely that they would care about getting the version with the nasty hacks. Either way, I support the decision to remove the discussions from these boards. I just wanted to be clear on why I didn't remove them from the start. |
It's a feature for our server that Yeor is personally engineering. It typically will be a patcher that runs a sort-of background service that is required in order to play at all. This background service acts as a punk buster (comparable to Warcraft's 'Warden') and detects/disables MacroQuest2 usage. Yeor has many plans and is the key designer for this feature so he'd be able to tell you a lot more about this than I could; and in better detail....

I often do not check threads again after I post on public forums unless the person asking the question needed to provide more data or it was a topic of personal interest. Thus, I wasn't trying to ignore you! :) |
Haha, I don't think you could've replied even if you'd wanted to, as the thread was archived. That's why I asked it again =)
Sounds like a good approach, and I can certainly understand the need to keep it close to the vest. Good luck with it! Thanks for the information about it. |
