Is the login server problem real?
So the login server and the forums are on the same box. I am posting this when the login server is down. I read another post where someone was saying something about a DoS attack happening when the "invalid password" message came up. Yet here I can post.
Closed source on the login server, interesting. The forum hardware is old and cannot handle the load. Ebay?http://cgi.ebay.com/Appro-Server-Dua...1|293:1|294:50 Need "donations" to keep it going. Many offers to host, hardware and run it for free....declined. Something smells funny. No idea what the real angle is here. This is really a simple problem with simple solutions. Yet here we are. Too bad. |
from what I understand they are being very transparent and open about everything. solutions are in the works, it just doesn't seem to be a priority to have it resolved as quickly as everyone would like.
patience, this will blow over soon enough. |
Search "in the works" on this forum.

I don't understand why people have an issue with them declining members to host it. Do you know these people? Do you know how reliable they are? Do you know that they won't just take things off-line whenever they want or will always be there to reset it when needed? Do you know that these people won't throw a hissy fit and just pull the plug because they're immature and selfish?
I'm backing the EQEmu heads on this, as they have the most reasonable solution. It's not a 'now' solution, but it's a 'get it done' solution. Oh, and as I understand it, the people who are offer private logins servers are also the ones who were behind the DoS attacks. They did it to prove a point, which is reckless and immature and denied players days of gameplay. They could have just pointed it out without exploiting it, but they chose not to. There is absolutely no way I would trust these people. Again, this is my opinion of limited knowledge of the situation. This is a FREE service as an alternative to a paid service. Some people need to grow up and move on instead of throwing fits over downtime. It happens. |
