How long until we move on from Titanium?
My old gaming PC finally kicked the proverbial bucket. /mourn Windows 98 dinosaur that ran EQ ten times better than any modern machine.
My new machine will be here in a day or two, but I no longer have Titanium discs. Before I run out and look for another Titanium to purchase, I figured I'd ask how long we'll be sticking with Titanium. I don't want to go grab it and install it on a new machine if it's going to be phased out anytime in the near future in favor of a more modern version of EQ. What say you, people in-the-know? |
a) per out devs recent statement BOTH T and SoF will be suported for a rather LONG period of time to come (think couple years)
b) you can go ahead and buy SoF rigth now and forget about T :D SoF may still be aviable at newegg.com for as little as $6 |
If you have access to your old harddrive, you can copy the whole Titanium install over to your new system. However, since it's most likely using FAT32 instead of NTFS, I don't think it'll be able to read the old harddrive.
I would just shell out the 5 bucks and get the SoF client, though. If you have a local GameStop or something, might want to check to see if someone has sold them Titanium. I've seen it at my local GameStop for 8 bucks, but considering SoF is only 5+ tax with free shipping at newegg, I would go for the latter. There's been a slew of updates for the SoF client, so it's just a matter of time before the SoF client gets to where Titanium is now. And it won't be as hard to get. SoF is the last retail CD Sony is putting out. So it's pretty much "get it while you can or regret it later" kind of thing. |
simpy copy the fat32 partition with everquest and you will be fine.
I would however purchase SoF since it's a better client. Right now I'm running it on Win7 64bit rev7100 GeorgeS |
I'd get a copy of SoF if I were in that situation tbh.

Thanks, guys. Looks like I'll be picking up SoF.

Right, but assuming he's going to install a new OS since XP is no longer supported, I wanted to point that out.

No longer working with XP or 98. ;) SoF ordered and on the way. Thanks for the help.

Well, I sure hope the newer versions of windows support FAT32 since USB drives usually are formatted that way. In any case, Vista supports FAT32.
Don't confuse what you can install on with what is supported. |

Just a stupid general question reguarding the SoF client etc. (ive been using titanium )
If I installed SoF, would it work properly on a server that doesnt have SoF open ? I mean, most of the servers I play on say they go up to lvl 70 and mainly go up thru OOW etc. Shoot I dont even know what expansions are past titainium as that was the last one I bought and played. |
