Good videocard
I am using a really old video card (NVIDIA Geforce 6150 LE with 256mb of memory). I know I probably need to upgrade this thing but Im pretty low on money. Does anyone know what would be a good upgrade for maybe around 50 dollars?

What type of computer are you using? :p

Okay you should have 1 pci express slot according to this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3298436
Here is a newegg link for pci express 2.0 cards $25-$50.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...25%20-%20%2450 Didn't have time to look at other merchants, but it appears the best you can get at newegg for under 50$ will be a 9500 or below. You can get a 9600 gt for.. $74.99 though if you can spare the extra cash. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143130 |
I really don't know much about videocards, so which one do you think is the best from the cheaper ones?

from newegg, i would say this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130471 is 50$, then a 10$ mail in rebate.

Am I correct in assuming that the fact its a Geforce 9400 more than makes up for it having 512mb compared to a gig or memory?

Depends on what you want the card for honestly :) If I am not mistaken a 6150 LE isn't even an actual graphics *card*.. its more like an integrated graphics accelerator.
The memory on the card itself.. its like this. A good card is a good card.. due to stream processors, memory clock, processor clock, and possible resolutions. The memory they put on them can be deceiving. Having a really bad video card with 1 gig of ram is like putting a spoiler on a Yugo? Just by putting a physical card in it, you'll be better off, but the 9400 is a low end card of the 9 series. The features and benefits of your accelerator : http://www.nvidia.com/page/gpu_mobo_features.html The features and benefits of the 9400gt. : http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...9400gt_us.html I still would recommend going with a 9600GT or better, if any way possible. |
thanks for the info, but I think im gonna stay with the 9400. Im sure it will still be a big improvement
