Guide/Manual for EQ Admin Tool?

EQ Admin Tool seems a really great application for use with EQEmu, but is there a guide or manual for it?

I've got version 2.71 and there seems to be nothing. I've also searched the forums but can't find anything useful in a single document.

I don't think you need a manual..

It's pretty self explanitory.. it's like any other tool, use it a few times before you get to know it.

If your having problems with it, it might be helpful to post something like this in the 3rd party application forum..

(2 posts so far that are in the wrong forum) :D

One of the most common mistakes when someone creates an application is to assume that it's self-explanatory. It's rather discouraging when you have to figure out the tool which is supposed to make life easier rather than getting on with the job it's designed for.

Besides, what happened to the golden rule around here - "rtfm"?

Ps. Sorry about posting this in this forum, but it's the place with the most hits...

"Show me an idiot proof _______ and I'll show you a better idiot."

:p

Granted, some info would be nice for new users.

Figuring it out is easier than figuring out the sql DB itself. but you can get a lot more out of knowing the DB... Besides, the admin tool is broken due to the latest patch. Edit ok, new admin tool is out :p Go Windcatcher!

It also depends on what is considered good documentation, All the info you need is there or in the eqemu source ;) you just want it written a different way. Bottom line is the DB isn't simple, you really NEEd to figure a few things out.

"Show me well written documentation and I'll show you a happy user"

I've been a programmer for 20 years and know well that what I think is obvious is often obscure to the new user of an application.

To be honest, I don't care what the database does, how it links and where everything is located, and that's just the point - with a good tool like EQ Admin, I shouldn't have to know those things - talented people like Windcatcher do the hard work and we all enjoy the benefits.

Like many things, software lives and dies by clear instructions, and if things like this emulator are to appeal to a wider audience than just hardcore people who like to tweak the insides of games, then good documentation is essential.

Just my two pence...

:p Peace.
