Question regarding the Client!

I am somewhat confused atm. I have read conflicting messages about whether either the Titanium Edition or the Secrets of Faydwer client are working with the emulator.

As a matter of fact, getting my hands on the TE is virtually NONE right now and secrets of faydwer would be a mere 15 Euros at amazon.

Since i havent played EQ for almost 7 years now and i would really like to not only dwell a bit in the old days, but rather get a lot of my friends who are completely disappointed by every second generation mmorpg to get a taste of what made the genre famous (and rightfully so!).

A quick answer would be much appreciated!

Cheers, Arkanai!

Supported clients are:

Titanium
Secrets Of Faydwer (off the retail disc, NOT any digital download version).
Seeds Of Destruction (only the digital download version currently available on Steam).

Titanium has been supported for several years and is the best supported currently.

Seeds of Destruction is the newest supported client and is getting the most attention at the moment and is generally considered superior to SoF in terms of stability.

You should be aware that not all the public EQEmu servers support clients other than Titanium, for their own reasons. TZ/VZ comes to mind, so if you go for SoF or SoD, you won't be able to play on those servers.

Likewise, since the public login server doesn't yet support SoD, you will only be able to play on a few servers with that client currently.

Thank you very much for your answer!

As a matter of fact i have a bunch of friends (rather about 20 to 30) which are mostly from Germany, Sweden, the US and the UK who i would pretty much like to get on a privately hosted free shard. So those issues wouldnt be a problem.

One of them is a programmer for a living ;)

I am really looking forward to getting back into the fray. Rather for hours of sitting in the "Blind Fish" or sitting on the bridge in Nektulos, fishing and talking ;)

And killing the halfling scout in Neriak anyway ;)

Awww, so many memories :D

I run my own private server, and I can definitely recommend the SoD client. It's not 100% functional, but for normal gameplay purposes it works great.

There are a couple pre-setup databases out there that have nearly everything up to and including the Planes of Power expansion filled out and working, so almost everything you remember should be there.

Nektulos however got a revamp a while back and it a totally different zone now, but it's possible to use the old version still, I believe it's as simple as replacing a file in your EQ directory.

Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of the SoD client though is the untapped potential. There are dozens of empty, un-used zones right now, ripe for custom content. I've been reading more and more about quest developing so I can create my own content for un-used zones.
