Server Setup for Dummy's?

okay so before in the past ive tried creating my own server but for some reason it fail, is there like a SoD server creation for Dummies? or something at all to help me out? would be much appreciated if it can be dumbed down to the lowest form so i can understand it completely haha. thanks =D
