Steam has 50 percent off sale ....

Just noticed Steam has a "50 percent off" sale. Underfoot client is 9.99
for those who want it and HoT is 19.99

Here is the link directly to the UF client:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/24180/

Though, it looks like there is less than 6 hours left on the sale according to the big countdown timer on the Steam main page.

Still showing sale today (Dec 23), so maybe extended or something.

That timer you mentioned is for the "daily deals", but his sales are going on
until Jan 2nd.

I grabbed that House of Thule client last night, since today is "suppose to"
be the last day of Steam's half-off sale. I know it will be a long time before
EQEmu gets in to the HoT stuff, but it's fair to say that price won't last
long, since Sony will be selling it for $40 until they bring out a new expansion.
I did check out the game play with the HoT client (on my own server) and
I had to do most of the same "touch-ups" that one has to do with UF client.
I found 163 files missing, (zone files, eqg's, etc), that one would usually get
with a Sony patch after buying the HoT. But I have those all added now,
and it works pretty good on most of the current content on the server.
I browsed around in the HoT zones, and I love the graphics in them :)

Just FYI, I am 99% sure that when Steam has an EQ download, it is the same one that gets used no matter which actual EQ expansion purchase you make. So, whether you bought UF or HoT, it is most likely the same download. That would explain the missing files and such that you got when buying HoT. The actual HoT client we use in EQEmu is from patching to Live. Though, you can do the patching for free since you purchased another client which comes with a trial key (as long as you don't apply it to an existing EQ account). I don't know how well the Live client works, but at least it shouldn't be missing any files at all.

Ya, I suspected HoT was the same kind of download as UF, since all the
"fixes" were exactly the same. The HoT client I bought from Steam, would
not let me download it until I did actually link it to an existing Sony account,
in which I have to log in to the account, and get that "activated" message.

I came across this weird file in my Underfooot client (from Steam). It was not
in my SoD or HoT folder. Filename is avlsstr_us.txt
Most of the lines in the file look like they are Sony "GM" related. Here is a
sample of one line:
50994 The suspension was successful. The player will NOT be able to login until the suspension is removed.
I couldn't post all of the lines, (too many). And also there is some very offensive words (filters I think) on some lines.
The "Last modified" date on this file is 26/03/2010

Interesting ...

The Underfoot client seems to have support for HoT zones in it. I only tried thulehouse1, thulehouse2, thuledream, somium and morellcastle, but I assume it supports them all.

You need to copy the zone etc. files over from a Live client, along with ancilliary model files (e.g. rdg.eqg has the model for the Rotdog fearstalker in thulehouse1).

So even though the EQEmu support for the current Live client is extremely limited, it would be possible for someone to create a fully playable HoT server, if:

1) They populate their DB with HoT data.
2) The players have the Underfoot client and access to a Live account to copy over the required HoT files to their Underfoot directory.

Obviously the new features in the real HoT client wouldn't be available, but the zones/mob models would be.

LOL, Ya, and here's me, thinking I saved a few bucks, when I could of done
it that way. (I already had a live account and UF). But, that could help a
few people knowing that :)

I know this thread is old, but with the holidays approaching, and perhaps also with the new expansion, if anyone sees any sales or discounts particularly on Underfoot, could you please post them.

I am going to keep my eye on Steam and I'll give you a heads up. (I remember when SoD went on sale for $2.50 and I am hopeful for something like that again.)

Solbash 11-16-2011 03:02 PM

Might want to double check and see if they update before they put anything on sale. As of 11/14/11 things were updated bc of the new expansion. This is the latest from sony as current today.

Does the updated version of the Underfoot client still work with emu servers? I was going to grab that client tonight.

Solbash 11-16-2011 05:55 PM

I would honestly wait until one of the admins or someone that knows for sure if it is still the right version before you buy the download. Since the new expansion just came out, they may have updated it.

Just downloaded from Steam my previously paid for Seeds Client and its working fine, shows build date of 8Jan2010.
Not sure how far I would trust it
