Updated gudie using compiled binaries?
So I've been scowering the website for a simple guide on how to set up a private server using the pre-compiled binaries (I've had bad experiences with compiling before and I just want to avoid it for now). To my surprise, even with all the extremely intelligent people in this community, no one seems to have written a clear, straightforward, and updated guide of how to set up a barebones private server.
I don't have a computer science degree, so struggling to read through all 62 muddled and outdated guides, can someone maybe shed some light on me and help me find an easier way to get my server up and running. Ive downloaded all of the necessary files, installed mysql/perl/etc, but where to go from here seems a bit wishywashy to me. No offense to anyone who wrote the guides that are out there now. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed about being a noob for posting this, but I figured it was worth a shot. |
I guess you missed one during your scouring process. http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=32980 That guide is very recent and by far the easiest to follow.

I guess I ignored it because it said "PUBLIC SERVER." Maybe it doesn't make a difference. Excuse my ignorance.
I will take a look. Thanks. :) Although I think I'm on the cusp of getting everything up and running. Just need to try to log in now. |
Yes I know you said private login but private login has several additional steps to it and if you make a mistake it is harder to find and fix. Get a public server setup then after you are comfortable with that migrate to private server.

Even though this one is a little older, it may help too:
