Mysql Configuration Freezing

Hi all,

Im working to setup a server for my own play and I have run into an issue where I get to th step to configure the server and when I press execute on mysql the program freezes up and crashes. Any ideas?

**edit**
This is the error in more detail
MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard seems to stick at the Processing configuration
step after clicking Execute.

It doesn't execute any of the four steps Prepare Configuration, etc.

I've tried this several times with 5.1 the same result.

I've also tried custom settings and a vanilla install. The process
MySQLInstanceConfig.exe is using 0% CPU and is Not Responding.

I have to kill off the process. When uninstalling, it sticks in the same place while
trying to stop the (non-running) server process. Then I have to restart the PC.

I can't find any obvious log files that would help out with this issue.

Remnants of a previous MySQL install are still on your system.

- Backup your database
- Uninstall MySQL from Add/Remove programs
- Delete the MySQL directory on c: (or where you installed it)
- Delete the MySQL directory in 'Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data (note: you have to show hidden files or folders to see the directory)
- Run REGEDIT and delete the MySQL key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE
- Reboot your system
- Install proper version of MySQL
- Restore database
