help with setup
 

I am trying to follow the directions given for setting up the game to run on the server but when i try to change the eqhost.txt file like it says it won't save it. At all. not even if i try to save without making any changes. all i get is

"Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\eqhost.txt file.
Make sure the path and file name are correct.

Can't create it??? i just opened the darn file. so then it opens the save as box. I then tried to take the .txt off the end of the name. It says

"eqhost.txt already exist.
do you want to replace it?

ok yes.... nope same error as above.
so i'm stumped.

any help would be appreciated. i'm running Vista so only thing i can guess is that it is a Vista issue. Yes I know Vista sucks. It wouldn't even allow me to connect to a friends cable connection with a direct cable. no wireless. no password on the router.

Vista and Windows 7 apply special permissions to the Program File and Program Files (x86) directories.

The best and easiest thing to do is to move your EQ install somewhere else, like c:\eq where those special restrictions do not apply. This will save you many potential headaches.

If you don't want to move it then you'll either need to run notepad as administrator, or copy the file out of the directory to somewhere you can edit it, like your desktop, then copy it back and replace the existing file.

thanks for the info. I'll uninstall and install like you said. I would try the second suggestion but knowing my luck i would just have further problems... God I hate Vista
