VS2010 & intellisense
has anyone had any success getting intellisense to work for the server in VS2010? it works fine in 2008, but is giving me a generic 'No additional information available' message in 2010. i've cleaned out my source folders of any files that weren't from the repository and let it rebuild the data to make sure it wasn't something i've inadvertently done, but to no avail.

Mine works, I am using VS2010 Pro from Dreamspark.
I had problems in the past, but when i dumped my last directory for a clean one after Akkadius merged everything it worked. Might have worked before that, but I won't swear on it. http://daerma.com/eq/server.jpg edit: right click on the error window and turn on intellisense errors, that may give you more information. http://daerma.com/eq/server2.jpg |
Works for me too with Ultimate. I did have an issue initially with Intellisense because I had uninstalled the SQL Compact Edition it installs because I didn't think I needed it. It does give an error every time you open a solution if this is the problem though. Try deleting the Server10.sdf file in the solution directory and it should rebuild it.

all i'm getting is
Code:
IntelliSense: 'No additional information available' (See 'Troubleshooting IntelliSense in C++ Projects' for further help.) i've tried a few things i've come up with on google, but none have worked thus far. i've got a C# project that it's working with, sooo... *shrug* i'm going to keep searching for possible solutions. thanks for the response. |

i've just run across another article that would suggest it's an issue with XP SP3 (which is what i have on this laptop) and VS2010 installs requiring VS2010 SP1 and a hotfix to be installed for intellisense to work in C++ projects. will give that a shot and update if that fixes it. |
I'm not on XP, but I do have all the service packs and such installed.

the ipch folder wasn't being created. installing VS2010 SP1 and then K2526044 over it resolved the issue.
further info here. |
Lol! I did the same thing Lerxst when I reloaded my system before the crash. I don't know if I applied the hotfix, but I do get ipch folders. Intellisense isn't acting
act right though..but it is working. Quick sidebar on re-installing WinXP: If you have a SP1 or SP2 install disk, you can no longer use Windows Update. You must manually upgrade to SP3 before updates will be available..and before you can install VS2010. After going through all 500 or so updates, you'll eventually get to where there are no more critical updates. At this point, Microsoft update will be available, or have been installed, and a whole new slew of MS updates will be available. I don't know if this particular hotfix is included in the updates, so you might have to check..like me, when I get home. |
Buy a windows 8 professional upgrade for $40 and save yourself some problems.

Do the upgrades still limit the number of times that you can change hardware before you have to call Redmond, err I mean India, like XP did?

probably as that is a standard thing. but i have never been refused the unlock over the phone yet.
