Strange chat issue

I have had the strangest chat issue come up recently. Not all the time, but at least half the time when talking in /ooc or /tell I get the horribly garbled chat. This is talking with UF client and common tongue as GM, common tongue is at 100 and so is gnomish, which my gm is. Anyone experience this? Possibly a rule setting I missed somewhere? Players have not complained about not being able to talk amongst themselves and I never see garbled text from them. I stripped the gm of all items thinking that could be it, nothing seems to work.

stupid question, but do you have your bad word filter off?

provocating 11-16-2013 01:33 PM

There are no stupid question, yes everything is "show" across the board.

Is your language skill 100?

provocating 11-16-2013 07:54 PM

Yes, common and gnomish are 100.

Ogres and Iksars don't have 100 Common Language so it may be the character not having the skill, the player may also be drunk, or your character is drunk somehow.

Yeah, haha, by player I meant character, but I guess if read literally it means the player's drunk. :D

Saw this on my server a long time ago. Wasn't sure if it was a source change or what, but once I had found the issue being related to common tongue skill I didn't look into it beyond a quick hot-fix.

One thing to check - what your chat window default language is.

Two - if Common is less than 100 for anyone you will see issues like this.

Can fix it by putting

Code:

$client->SetLanguageSkill(0, 100);
In EVENT_CONNECT or EVENT_ENTERZONE.

Yes, it was a source change to implement scrambled text when you are not at skill 100. I thought there was a rule to go with it, if not there should be.

JJ: (demonstar55) Language skill up should use proper function.
JJ: SetLanguageSkill now updates client immediately. Both functions do proper limit checks.
Added two missing languages. Skill level 0 in a spoken language now shows 'in an unknown tongue'.
JJ: Initial implementation of a GarbleMessage function and implemented for languages. Can be shared with drunk speaking.
