New Debian Server
I've been running my old Debian server for years, just taping it together here and there and fighting to avoid a new build. Well, I'm finally taking the leap. Figured I would learn Docker while I was at it, which I have to say, I do not like! lol
Anyway, this is where I'm hung up. I'm following the installation guide, and maybe I need something a little more comprehensive? The trouble I have always had with Debian is it's just not "ready to go" Before you can run curl commands, you have to install curl, same with so many other pieces, so it could just be that I'm missing something. The only real struggle I had so far was just getting my eqemu account in the sudoer file lol eqemu@debian:/opt/eqemu-servers/akk-stack$ make install docker-compose pull unable to get image 'stilliard/pure-ftpd': Cannot connect to the Docker daemon a t unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running? make: *** [Makefile:114: install] Error 1 |
It seems this is the type error you see when you haven't setup your user account as a docker user as suggested in the instructions, so I am going back through that. I must have done something either out of order, or just didn't follow it closely. I'll try again tonight.

Ok, I figured it out... And I'm an idiot :) I had never used Docker before, and didn't realize it had a more complicated installation than how I usually install aps.

Still having issues. It's probably an order of operations issue since I didn't correctly install Docker at first. I'll give this one more go from a fresh OS, and if I can't get it, I'm going back to old school. I get Docker may be in younger folks future, but I don't like it. I like having my hands on what I'm doing.

Well, it's operational! Just took a little care. Next I just have to sort out my networking as I'm behind two routers.
I think a more complete instruction guide might be in order to help move this installation from advanced to basic. You don't really need to know much, but base Debian needs a lot of perp work before it's good to go. |
