Will I be able to use EQEMu with a fresh install?
I had quit, and uninstalled, EQ for 3 months now and I want to use EQEmu? How would I go about that now that the latest patch disable this program?
:? |
Basically all i've been told is you cant. I'm in the same position as you. I asked if they could send the patch they are currently using but they said it would be a breach of copywright laws or something.
What makes things even worse is EQ has just released ANOTHER patch so EQEMU is 2 patches behind now. I think we will be waitin for quite some time yet mate. |
If you own the game LEGALLY and play LEGALLY, and you want to get a older version of the game that you payed for LEGALLY. Then TECHNICALLY you are NOT breaking any copyright laws. Because you are not MODIFYING the software that came from the owners. You are using a older BUILD of the game that was BUILT from verant.
Am I wrong? |
You are wrong. Even if you own the game "actual version" and some one own the game "old version", it's again the law (in france and in US, as far as i know) to share commercial files ... such as files from EQ.
|
Then i stand corrected =)
|
HEY I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA!!! :D Does that law apply here? lol
what i dont get is if you arent allowed to give out older versions of eq, then why can websites let you download older patches of games as well as new ones? eg:Quake. hmmm |
Hey that right. Why do they do that? or why is that allowed?
|
Because on your other game, you bough a game and after that you can do serveral stuff on it (except reverse compilation).
With MMORPG, the patch IS the game. If you only get the first EXE of EQ, you will be able to download all the EQ classic data. Remember, this is just a MMORPG ... If Everquest wasnt a MMORPG and didnt need those online patches, then you were right, but you arent. For Australia, it does apply (it similar why at least). The ony countries which dont have that kind of laws are the contries that forbidden computers and video games. |
it whould also apply in australia because EQ is USA based, you you have to abide by USA rules, correct?
|
Yes and no.
EQ is based on US law but "hacking" is punish by every government so ... |
sorry to cause confusion there guys but i was only making a joke about havin different laws in good old down under.
i didnt think you would take it all so seriously. and i DO understand what you are sayin about the patching now. No more annoying questions from me. I'll just find something else to play for a while. |
Unless the game company freely provides an archive of older files, distributing them would be considered a violation of copyright laws. As you would be distributing intellectual property without prior consent.
