Current Trend

I notice a current trend of whiners on the forums. STOP IT!

We are working as well as we can, and complaining that a certain server doesn't work doesnt really help anybody does it? Maybe it is hosted on a 28.8 modem? Maybe it is overloaded, maybe it just went down right after the last update and hasn't timed out on the server list yet? I wish our software worked for everyone everytime, but it is impossible since we dont host on the connectivity or dedicated hardware like Sony does. That is what your $13/month pays for. This is how Sony would be doing the servers if it was free.

Here Here...

These guys do a great job, especially since they don't get paid to do this. It's a hobby to them that your enjoying the benefit from it.

Yeah.. really aint bitching about that, cos if you compare the custormer support you get from Sony when you pay them 13$ a month... and these who do everything for free.. Well.. :)

I say we shoot the whiners and find out the IP they are connecting from and refuse them service, but me I'm just mean an nasty so go figure LOL

Personally, I have no idea why people feel they have a right to complain at all about something they get free. When you're not paying for something the person giving it to you has no obligation to ensure your enjoyment of it or even to ensure it works for you at all.

I pop the latest version of EqEmu onto my system and if it works great. If I can't get on a server (which I haven't tried yet but will be trying so far I've only used it stand-alone on my own system to get a feel for how it's set up and works) I'll go 'oh well' and go play NOLFII, Spearhead, or BF1942 or something.

Do people not realize how dopey they sound when they complain that something being supplied to them for free isn't working when they want it to or how they want it to? They have no obligation to have the server up at all much less any moment of the day and night anyone not paying for it wants to play.

Would be nice if there was a law requiring people to pass a test to show maturity before being allowed to operate a web browser. :)

its getting kinda lame

I have to agree with the last guy about this almost ever day there are about 10-20 new post about people getting errors and most of it is really simple. If everone took the time to read the readme, there wouldnt be as many problems. I run a BIG LAN server that will soon be on the internet and i got alot of error but i took the time to read everthing.

EQEmu is not for everone!

RSKindred 03-13-2003 07:22 AM

I agree too. I haven't been on here long and I haven't posted much thus far, but I hope that the few posts that were mine were not considered whining. I think that this is great, and I appreciate the work of everyone involved in making this happen.
Being able to play without worrying about too much is fun, and it's a good alternative to the system on the Eq Live. So, thank you to all who set this up.

To add to the last thing Memenerr said, I think we provide too much support some times. People just need to read.

Thank you, I totally agree. The guys here have done a fantastic job with the program. I have as much problem as the next person getting it setup sometimes, but I at least TRY to search the forums for the answers.

Good job guys! Keep it up and many thanks!

Dude, GumbyX, you couldn't have found a worse place to post this.

HellzKnight 03-13-2003 09:13 PM

I would just like to say thanks for your efforts and thanks for all the work that you as a group provide...I mean dang...getting closer and closer to EQLive status...which is going to rule...I don't have any complaints...I am perfectly happy on how this is going along...and as they say "if you want something done...do it yourself...if not forever hold your peace"

basically saying...if you can't do it then wait for someone else to do it in their own time :)..and respect them for their progress.

I think that maybe people got the wrong impression from hogie's post. Whining and asking for help are not the same. Yes, many people here do them at the same time, but don't let those people discourage us from helping the people that know how to ask for help. Someone who asks why this and that and the other thing don't work, and the same answer has been given 50 times don't deserve help. On the other hand, someone who is struggling with setting up a server may not know everything there is to know about EQEmu and computers. This doesn't mean they don't deserve help. I think that many people who frequent the forums tend to get tired of seeing the same thing over and over, but the all the negative posts make it that much harder to use the search tool.

My point is, sometimes you need to step back and take a look at the situation from a broader perspective. We all want more people to populate the servers. And believe it or not, there's a limited number of "techno-philes" out there that can pick up a program and know how to use it. It's up to the people who answer questions and who reply to these posts to set the tone for the people who are new.
