The Loginserver Admin Tab

Hey all, I saw that screenshot with the 103 users on the GuildWars server but the admin tab really cought my eye ;). I was just wondering what exactly that does?

heh, on live it might do something special, but on the emu it doesnt. When we click on it, it just brings us into the chat room like we clicked the "Chat" button.

Then why do you even have an admin button? Are devs like super flagged so they can be a serverOP on all servers or something :) . That'd be cool if you are.

heh no we arent super flagged, we have a status of zero on any server we get on (unless we are set higher by the server owner).

It was going to be a chat room for the devs but the chat server never got finished or was broken somewhere along the line. the button now does nothing.. The devs are flagged higher on the loginserver (the LS has status's just like world does), and only means we can enter locked servers. It doesnt give us any special status on servers.

It does nothing on EQEmu. On EQLive, it connects you to the Admin Chat Room. It's used by GMs so they can look up account information without all the noise in General Chat.

I'm the person that put in the code to enable it on Login Server admin accounts. Unfortunately, I was unable to implement the room side of the button because of the seperation between Chat and Login. The client sends a chat room request to the login server when the button is clicked but the Login server isn't set up to handle chat rooms. Therefore the client just sits there at a blank EQ Chat screen until you hit "DONE".

I hope this clears up some of the mystery behind the button.

Thanks Scruffy :) . Also, the normal chatroom "Chat" works fine. Just incase you didint know and that might of helped something. It does'nt connect to the IRC room (that'd be cool) but it does say welcome to EQEmu chat.

Unfortunatly, it doesn't really help me much. The problem isn't that the chat feature itself is broken, it's just that the client tries connecting to the login server instead of the chat server. On a regular "CHAT" button press, the client sends a packet to server asking for the chat server address. Login then sends out the chat server address. The client then connects to the chat server.

However, when the "ADMIN" button is pressed, the client sends an enter chat room packet directly to the login server. The chat client sits there waiting for a response from login that will never come because login isn't capable of handling chat server requests.
