Simple login question

Why is there green server and black server in the loggin menu? (Mine is black).

My next question is what does the number next to each server means? Mine is always 5.

Green servers are labeled as preferred servers. From what I can tell, the green ones are run by the EQEmu development team or people close to them.

The number represents the number of zones currently up on the server.
