# Read this before you think of making a server #
 

Read before you decide to start making a server or even ask anyone a question about making a server...

1. If its even necessary for you to read this, you shouldn't be making a server.

2. Do not go posting new threads and entering mIRC channels spamming questions when you haven't THOUROUGHLY checked all the forums and threads already available for your question. 99% of any question your going to ask has been answered SEVERAL times already. All original questions are asked by devs to other devs. Sorry. People who are exp in this don't mind answering questions for the most part, but when your bombarded for 10 hours with basic noob questions expecting you to be tech support, people go turtle and won't answer shit.

3. Theres already 40 servers (most empty) out there, so just join one of those. Join a Non-Legit if your looking for the uber GM powers to mess around. You will have full privleges that you would if you set up the server (nearly) without the days of work it takes to initially set one up.

4. If you are behind a firewall, router, NAT, etc. Don't even bother, becasue its likely all your work will of been in vain. If your not 100% sure of what I just said, stop reading now and forget your dreams of becoming an uber server host.

5. Do you have a fast ass connections? Otherwise more than 2 people attacking 1 MOB = everyone goes LD.

6. Do you have an extra computer thats got modern technology in it to dedicate simply to hosting your server? Because playing it and hosting from same comp will cause severe slow down for you, and your clients.

7. Do you look at code excerpts and /boggle? Please hit alt + f4 now...

8. Do you know how to grant privileges in mySQL? If not, repartioning your C drive will solve the problem.

It takes incredible dedication to start a server and keep it running. If you still want to persevere and do it and you meet all above criteria, then SEARCH THE FORUMS for your questions. I basically guarentee 100% of any question you have will be found here. If you get errors, experiment with different build/DB combinations etc. Devs here, and other involved community members get grumpy and don't answer questions because they have to answer the same questions over and over and over again because people are to lazy to go look through whats already been covered. So stop playing the boy-who-cried-wolf, save your questions for when you are REALLY stuck, and alreayd put a few HOURS (not minutes) into looking for your answer, not having it handed to you. Thats the onyl way you'll ever learn.

#8 was really uncalled for, i'm sure someone fell for it too, bu tstill uncalled for

this could lead to legal problems and they can just point ot the page with the instructions telling them whatto do and what happens

i would change this fast

i dont think they would be able to get winodws reinstalled and running again, if they were stupid enuf to re-partition their c drive to get mySQL working, so it probly wont be a problem 8-)

if someone is dumb enough to think they need to repartition their hard drive to get mysql working then chances are they wont know what that is or how to do it so therefor no one will get sued or anything because of that!

I loved your post.. and as for #8.... I agree... if you that dumb... then your just going to ask how to do... and n00b out everything... I like newbies... but I hate, N00Bs....
