BTW, i'm using a PIII 933MHz with 512mb ram, 40gig + 50gig HD, ATI Radeon 32mb PCI 3D card, Road runner cable modem, 16'' standard monitor.. I can play on servers fine with little to no inherit lag but when i host server mysef + play on it, it gets a little laggy..

On the way: PIV 2.2GHz, 1024MB ram, 120gig HD, NVidia Geforce 4 128mb 3D card, 18'' LCD flat panel screen, DVD-RAM/DVD-R and 40x12x48 CDRW (Yes i said 40 times WRITE). Gateway rocks ! :) http://www.gateway.com click "most powerful PC".

Server is a PIII 500 512 Megs ram. runs a 3% with sleeping zones (15)

so far no complaints about lag. of course its an empty world at this point.

Computer Specs.

I've got a few machines. All are connected to a Cable modem via a linksys dsl router (soon to be cisco switch and router). This is my personal equipment......

Compaq proliant 2500 server:
Pentium Pro 200
256 mb ram
2 4gig HDD mirrored system drive
3 4gig HDD on RAID 5 for data

Second server computer:
Dual PentiumIII 500
256 mb ram
2 9gig 10k rpm Ultra2 scsi mirrored system/data drive

Thrid computer(play\video toaster machine)
Dual PIV Xeon 1.8GHz (supermicro p4dc6+)
1 gig 800MHz rdram memory
40gig ata100 system drive
40gig ata100 backup storage/junk drive
4 36gig 10k rpm Ultra3 scsi stripped for 140gb (video drive)
Visiontek G-force III 64mb Ti500
21" Nokia Monitor
(a few other toys)

Basicly I have minilogon set up on the second server and play from the third system.

My computer specs:
PIV 1.8Ghz
1gb 800mhz RDRAM
2 40 GB Hard Drives
Geforce 4 128MB video
19" Monitor
Cable modem connection

I can play on other servers, I sometimes get lag, and sometimes don't.
When I run my own server, the lag makes it unplayable at times (using drawde's 0.7 world data), but runs fine when I use an empty world. ;)

I saw a pretty big performance jump when I went from a PII with 256 cache to one with 512. (Hey, what do you want for $150?)

theCoder 03-26-2002 03:36 PM

ready to laugh?

Here are my computer specs:

First the Linux server. This is the one I run the emu on:
133MHz Pentium
128 MB RAM
Linux len 2.4.8-26mdk #1 Sun Sep 23 17:06:39 CEST 2001 i586 unknown
About 30 GB hard drive (multiple partitions)

Now my Windows client for Everquest:
350MHz Pentium II
320 MB RAM (used to be 64 -- that was a real pain to run EQ with)
Windows 2000
11 and 15 GB hard drives

Internet connection is usually pretty good, and the Internet2 connection is really nice (yay for unrestricted gigabit line!)

I really need to buy a new computer...

My Linux server:
933MHz Pentium III
768 MB RAM
Red Hat Linux 7.2 (Enigma) 2.4.9-31 #1 Tue Feb 26 07:11:02 EST 2002 i686

Windows client:
1700MHz Pentium IV
768 MB RAM
Windows XP Pro
3-D Blaster Annhilator 2

Custom built is the way to go, and AMD is the best! Pentium can go to hell. Anyways.. here my comps stats....

Windows XP Comp:
AMD Athlon XP 2100
ASUS MB (WOOT!)
2GB mushkin (russian) memory
GeForce4 Ti 4600
300GB of HD
16x DVD
40x12x48 CD-RW
4 piece digital speakers with subwoofer

I don't get that one til Friday though when the MB/Processor come in, but it's pretty good.

Right now I got 2 others and 5 sun systems (Sun systems are sortof old.. from my friends graphics company, they upgraded and I like collecting stuff like that, and their still pretty good so =D.

Malevolent 03-27-2002 01:26 AM

  • 1.2 GHZ AMD
  • 512 2400 DDR
  • 4 Gig 5400rpm hd (about 200 meg free)
  • Win2k Advanced Server
  • .NET Framework RTM preSP1

0.2.5 && 0.2.6+

Results:
I haven't had any stability issues. Although, the box does tend to lag a bit when task switching with the IDE, world server, and eqw processes running.
