There will be more servers up after EMU gets current with live. most people didnt listen and make a back up of there files, then patched to live so nedless to say they cant get on.

Yeah I was one actuly Im new but Im planing on making a server when 5.0 out as I hear i got a good server specs for it :)

mattmeck 09-09-2003 03:26 PM

Its normaly the BW that kicks peoples arses, I tried my own server using, Two AMD 2.4 GH with a Gig of Ram and a AMD 1.3GH with 768M Ram, and people lagged out with more then 10-15 on the server and, I have a Cable connection.

kanechart 09-09-2003 11:18 PM

bet your cable cuz lots data is sent.. I got 2x 2.6ghz with 1.25gigs ram :)

Bandwidth usage may be significantly decreased with 0.5.0, but it's still too early to know for sure.

One thing in particular that I noticed in 0.4.4 was that every client was sending out a position packet to every other client in the zone every 0.25 seconds - in addition to sending it out whenever a client moves. The position packet was only 18 bytes, but with the overhead of all packet headers and their ACK responses (didn't check if this packet had an ACK), that's quite a bit of bandwidth.

The new algorithm in 0.5.0 is still being fine tuned, but right now, it only sends out a position update when someone moves. In conjunction with the compression of larger packets, I think this will significantly cut down on bandwidth requirements.

As far as RAM requirements go - I think people that get more than 1gb for their home machines are crazy :) What kind of applications are you people using that eat up that much memory?!

Busness class sgould be ok, check the stats on it to see what the upload is, I know with Road Runner the first tier of Bizness class has less upload as residental,

(2 Mb/s download) (300Kbps upload) for residental

(1 Mbps Download) (256 Kbps upload) for tier 1 busness class.

so saying you have busness class = better, isnt normaly true :D

Well actul;y I have 2 pc's with 1.25 :P The reason was I ran a Helbreath Server and Well ever hear of Copyright :P well so I had to end that few days ago but at most time I had 200+ players place at once.. I had 2 servers to run here at home I was bored during summer so I made this server.. Now that I see I can run EQ Server I wanted give it a shot.. Even tho I never have played it heh.. I'm just the kind who likes running servers for others editing and playing around.. Tho you find I like to run it legit.. I'm hoping every item gets it's own code if so I hope a few of us can make a dupe snifer code.. So if 2 items have same code we know it's a dupe thats what we did for helbreath :).. I know this be little easy as Helbreath 2.19 ran on ASCII101 :P But I have some web experiece with Sql Databases and I'm hoping this be sucsess and your the guys that are doing the great work programing it... Amazing tho Helbreath took about 20-30 kb/s download and about 30-40kb/s upload for little over 200 people at once lol.. Bandwidth Friendly :)

Good luck :)

I'm on rogers :( 3mbps down and 300 up and yes it sucks tho it's exactly 2 times faster as it's 1.5 down and 150bps up

mattmeck 09-10-2003 02:19 AM

Dont know with 5.0, but with 4.4 each person on the server will use aproximatly 20-25 k/s of your upload. You should be good for 20-25 people with little to no lag.

Hopefully the changes in 5.0 will help with the requirments

kanechart 09-10-2003 02:21 AM

That would be great also maybe we could explore that even after to learn how maybe we can exploit it into a config file we can update our selfs and stuff to what we feel like ;) But good work.

You had 200 players playing simultaneously? I thought Guildwars holds the record with 103 or something like that. How come I have never heard of your server? Was this on Hackersquest?
