I've heard this argument for years from the ranks of the computer elite (ie geeks)
You can get as offended as you want, but the simple fact is that years ago the general public (ie nongeeks) heisted the term hacker, and there is no amount of whining, begging, complaining that you can do that is going to change it. If you were smart, you'd get on with your life and come up with a cool new term... Its a fact of life.. Countries get invaded, people and puppies die, terms are stolen and used in improper contexts... |
And here i thought I was the only one old enough to remember when "hacker" was a good thing. Then 20/20 did that story.....
The new term is "techie" although "geek" can be embraced as well, in spite of its negative connotations. It also might be interesting to some, that a recent study showed the jock/muscleman image has fallen in favor with girls/women. It seems many of them are now looking for guys with (are you ready for this?) BRAINS. "and the geek shall inherit the earth"<grin> |
That's why I am such a stud, I'm both !
All the pluses, none of the minuses. FEAR ME! I AM DESTINED TO RULE! |

What an awesome song, until they start up that stupid .. 'ooh ooh ooh , people talk about you, people say you had your day' bridge... Awesome soundtrack.. One vision and Who wants to live forever are both classics... |
