Unable to log into my server. Not the usual suspects.

I am trying to get a fresh install of titanium connecting to the latest eqemu. When I attempt to log in, I see this in the Login server window:

[Network] [03.18.11 - 17:42:38] New Titanium client...

Yup, did in depth file scan, refixed the host file, ran again, and this time it didnt even get to loading equipment, it crashed on loading character models. this is a fresh install today+patch to...

I get to server select fine, but when loading finishes (at "loading equipment") Just before loading the character select screen, I get an error Microsoft C++ runtime Error, eqgame.exe abnormal...
