1017 error when trying to log into 0.5.0

Sometimes I get the 1017 error, sometimes get kicked back to the login screen :?

The good news is the Chat seems to work.

Not sure about when I need to do the EQEmu and/or SQL stuff

Some parts of the HowTos just aren't agreeing and/or getting fairly dated....

Right now I just want to log onto the EQEmu servers.

Some dumb questions from another noob

OK newbie here, I have read the forums quite a bit, but either missed or didn't understand some things...

Why would a separate patcher file be needed to run EQemu; Is it because its not practical...
