I've been playing EQ VIA Cedega for a long time now - and now that i switched to EQEmu, it works fine there also.
I have a Mandriva/Linux Distro, with KDE Desktop.
For starters, if you're really interested in Linux, I can best recommend you buy yourself an NVidia Video Card. Not because they are any better than what you have (probably all the same at this point), but because NVidia gives 100% support to Linux kernel. I wouldn't install drivers what your Distro has for your Nvidia card, but download latest Nvidia drivers from NVidia - their instalation program is very easy and so far, has always worked for me. I always buy my cards at computergate.com, and my best card is a GForce 6200 256mb (cost about 65.00 there) , I also have a GF 5200 (about 40.00 now days), which worked EQ well also.
But Im wondering, if you already tried Cedega - did it (Cedega) pass all the System-Video tests OK? Did you run "glxgears" ? what FPS does glxgears give you? Are you running EQ off your windows partition or did you move a copy of EQ over to your LInux partition? loads faster off the Linux partitiion. These are some things that need to be straight first, if you haven't already.
