i had a strange error also when i installed and booted the EQ client, i just made sure i followed the instructions here
http://www.eqemulator.org/wiki/wikka...akka=PlayGuide step by step, updating all files.. i needed to reinstall DX9 over the top of my newer DX install. also maked sure i had the DX9 files from live game were in my EQE folder... i also updated my EQClient.ini followed this
