Okay I fixed this problem by using the admin tool to view the database.
I then added my account (Lodan) to the database. This got me in to character select. This seems obvious but I don't remember reading about it in the readme or any other posts.
I also had a problem when I created a char it submitted name to world server (quickly flashed up a box) then chucked me back to char create.
Solved this by adding the name of my character to the database using the admin tool.
Not sure if this helps anyone but thought I'd post it anyway.
